February 13, 2014 at 7:45 pm #194765We are getting ready to go live with the new website. I want to clean out everything we are not going to be using. For example, in the public.html folder, can I safely delete the installation zip folder now? I would think so. When we move sites with Akeeba at the end of the process you can check a box and the folder deletes automatically. Maybe QuickStart works the same way and I just missed it when I installed.
I have safely removed Kunena that came with the template because we went with EasyDiscuss.
I am going to be removing some more JA modules which were replaced by third-party software.
The big question is about K2. It seems to be dug so deep into the CSS of my QuickStart JA Mitius that I dread what will happen if I try to uninstall it. It’s a big file which we have no need whatsoever for because we prefer commercial, dedicated-solution software which does not try to be everything to everyone like K2. I know you and a lot of other people love it and I have used it myself from time to time, but I’m using it less and less these days, and now it’s just in the way and cluttering up the server.
If anyone else has been down this road, I’d like to hear from you.
Thanks in advance!

February 13, 2014 at 8:10 pm #522592Speaking as to your “installation” file folder . . .
As a Rule-Of-Thumb – That is something that should generally be removed/deleted immediately after you complete the installation of your site.

February 13, 2014 at 8:24 pm #522595Thanks for the tip! This was my first time through with JA Mitius QuickStart. Lots of learning curve.

February 14, 2014 at 2:49 pm #522719That’s reassuring to know. For me on a previous site, it was a big problem. I guess I’ll back up the site, cross my fingers and give it a whirl.

February 14, 2014 at 3:04 pm #522721Okay, I did uninstall K2 and the site seems fine. But I got a screen full of warning messages when I did it. The message says: JInstaller: :Install: Cannot find Joomla XML setup file. I am concerned, even though the uninstall does appears to have gone through. If anybody has seen this before, please let me know the cure. I am reading up on it in the Joomla forums.
