Hey,

I am unable to find the file which I need to edit to do the following:
a. Change the menu item translations
b. more importantly change "Highlight" (which is still written in English) to it’s correct language.

For the Highlight text kindly open /root/language/en-GB/en-GB.tpl_ja_oslo.ini

Find

TPL_HIGHLIGHT       ="Highlight"

change the text.

hey,

I need to translate this same /root/language/en-GB/en-GB.tpl_ja_oslo.ini items to Arabic
can I simply copy the file and use ar-AA.ini?

yes, you can. Also, you can create override from Joomla admin section. Extension > language override and create overrides from this.
