August 6, 2008 at 3:22 pm #131865hi,
using edenite and j1.5.3i an article appearing on the front page that doe.s not have the read more link within the article. all the content is there on the front page because it is only a couple of sentences…yet the read more link is there.
i really need to get that off. you click on it only to NOT read more because you already read it all !!
thanks

August 6, 2008 at 6:50 pm #264157My thoughts…
Couple of things may likely be the cause.
Open the offending ARTICLE and then open it’s HTML…some WYSIWYG’s, for whatever reason, seem hell bent on adding an extraneous <br/> or better yet an <p></p> at the end of the article when you save it. It sounds like you may have that one extra space or line that is causing Joomla! to think your article is actually longer than it is.
The other idea I have is that you accidentally have the READ MORE code inside the html…but I really think you would have noticed that.
My 2 cents…

August 6, 2008 at 9:12 pm #264186hi and thanks for your response…
there are no sneaky tags that i can see in the html mode. no read more code either. is there a read more parameter…i don’t see one for the article individually and i do need them for others….
any other stabs?ok i just set article param to hide read more and still says read more.
ok i just set the read more param to hide in the janews module and works but need it to show up in the ones with the read more code…oh well…i guess they will just have to click the link…

August 6, 2008 at 9:33 pm #264192But I’m wondering if that will turn them off for ALL of your stuff. Hmmm…
Going to go look.

August 6, 2008 at 9:44 pm #264194SEEING is UNDERSTANDING! :))
I see what you mean now. And you are correct, getting rid of them in Jnews is the best.
However…and I hate to put a fly in the ointment…but I’m seeing a useability issue with the announcements rotating. Let’s say you are a parent and see something you need to see like the “Hammond Park” Registration…and I need to copy down that phone number…and WHOOPS…it’s gone.
I think it would be a good idea to add Title Links to the pages (like you did for School Supplies), especially for those pages that have lots of information on them. So they can sort of stop the world and get off…or at least jump off the rotator to get the information. 🙂
And from one education web designer to another…have a GREAT 2008-09.
