    Hello,
having problems installin the quickstart for the JA Portfolio Real Estate on my local machine.
At the install page of the admin area I have selected the zip package “ja_portfolio_real_estate” and tried to install it.
All that happens is that it gets redirected to the admin panel’s Home Page and the package is not installed.
I’m working on Windows IIS7 and have managed to raise the max upload to 80MB and I have managed to install everything else that is part of the JA Portfolio package. I have also tried unzipping the package to check its contents and all seems fine.

Any ideas on what’s going on?

The quickstart package is a complete install including Joomla. You cannot install the quickstart from the Joomla admin panel.

In the quickstart folder you will find a .zip file, Treat this as you would a standard Joomla download. Unzip its contents and upload the whole lot to your desired directory. Then browse to that directory and follow the standard Joomla install script not forgetting to press the “install sample data” button on the last page.

    Good luck.

OK, I’ve done that and have installed the quickstart successfully (I feel a bit silly – but hey I’m a Newbie :-*!).
Now I’ve got the problem that the admin panel is working perfectly whereas the actual site when previewed gives me a generic HTTP500 error.
Could it be that I’m using PHP5.2?
Or can anyone advise me as to any tools that could help me while I’m developing on my local machine?

    Thanks in advance

Don’t feel silly, we all have to learn somewhere.

The PHP version is not a problem. Unfortunately, the only way you can find out what is causing that error is to ask your host. A 500 error is an internal server error. Something on your server has the hump but it will produce an error log stating what. You host should be able to look at the log and quickly determine what is wrong. At least any good host should.

Sorry, just noticed you are working on your own local machine. How that is set up is something we cannot really help with. You’ll just have to examine the logs and find out what is going on. I’m more linux orientated so cannot advise on windows server setups. There are plenty of sites that can help though.
