What needs to be edited to reduce the padding shown in the attached screenshot? I want the category description to be a bit higher on the page.

Hi oldsteel68 !
You can view image for detail about padding. Padding is created by code of virtuemart component. You can remove it by following way :
open shop.browse.php in file administratorcomponentscom_virtuemarthtml folder. find code section :

<br style="clear:both;" /><br />
You can find it at about line 71 and 86 !
remove all this code section.
