OK. I changed one article as advised and changed the Section/Category as advised.

    If I view:

    Members Area – Language

    Then it works!

However, my problem here is … the article has disappeared from the Section (it only appears in category)? I did apply the same Component Parameters are Section and Category level, but this only works at Category level. The articles ‘dissapear’ at Section level.

Oh, I did try clicking on a foreign language in Joom!Fish to see what happened … the article immediately disappeared too!!</blockquote>

Let me ask you, you are using the full Teline setup, right?

    mmmm I think so! :-[

I started with the demo site and just ‘modified’ from there, so I believe I have all modules, extensions, etc., as the original Teline II demo?

    Correct, thats the full package……..
Now, i should not do this but here is a suggestions from me.
what about if you give me a full back up of the site, with all files and a database backup, where you have all this problems on.
Give me a brief description over things that dont work.
Don’t write 500 lines to describe each problem, use few words and a image and a link to each spedific problem.
This makes it easy for me to locate the problem on your site, i get a excact problem description.

In the weekend i will install the package, and start to fix bugs, the bugs i cant fix i will contact some JA people to ask for a correct solution.
I will alsowrite up notes for what has been changed and not.

It might take some time to do it since i did not develop this, but i will help out as much as i can.
I have a few thoughts about what can be wrong here and there, not only for the registered to read more, but for all of it.
But i need time to investigate(i sounds like a spy).

Thanks Menalto. Give me some time to find all the files (I guess this is my entire ‘Joomla’ folder including templates, etc) and the database. Then I can zip everything, FTP it and send you a link for download?

Thats correct, i also started a tread here: http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/bug-fix-tread-ja-teline-2/
Where other people can report in specific bugs with this template. Which i think a few posts will come in…

    Menalto,

How about starting with your plan to rewrite 40% of the JA Teline II, all that you know so far, and you have participated in them. That way, it would be a clean slate.

I would not mind starting over with a well thought version of JA Teline II, especially the Joomla 1.5x-JA Teline II.

The trouble with starting with a messed-up versions of clueless customers like myself, is that the wounds may be self-inflicted. It takes forever to find the error, because you need to understand first what they did wrong. Even the famous Sherlock Holmes take forever to solve such mysteries. 🙂

Just a thought. I think almost everyone who uses a JA Teline II, who did not experience the same problems that Chris, gaygiorgia, and others, including myself will benefit tremendously from such an overhaul. I do not know when and if Joomlart will ever do that.

I can do that, atleast i will incorporate what i can find of fixes here and there in first place for the template. Also add a few more module positions for thoose who want that, since i feel this template is to restricted as it is.
Then the modules and plug ins goes next.

Yes, yes and yes to all plans. 🙂

Indeed, there is no room for creative expansion in the current JA Teline II layout positions.

I have a much cleaner layout proposal than the one I sent you a long time ago. It is in the other link where you registered. This week and the previous were quite busy though, so I have not finished the descriptions of the table layouts — but I think they are self-explanatory. I am sure you will understand.

Did anybody ever get this to work?

OOPS. Sorry, clicked ‘Post Quick Reply’ when I meant to click ‘Go Advanced’ :-[

I woke up this morning determined to follow Menalto’s PDF user guide step by step and get this thing to work!

Fistly, I took a Section page which I would like to make ‘Registered’ members only:

Here’s how this page currently looks to ‘unregistered’ users:

I then went into the Article Manager and found ‘The Notary’ article. I changed the Access Level from ‘public’ to ‘registered’.

I then refreshed the section page and the article disappeared altogether!!

However, the strange thing is, it works fine if I click on a category page:

Plus, the button has changed to ‘register to read more’ which is exactly what we require.

Unfortunately, clicking on the ‘register to read more’ button gives the following:

So, I guess my question is actually two questions …

    1. Does anybody have any idea why this doesn’t work in a Section, but does work in Categories.

2 How to fix the 403 Access Denied error? Although I believe this is because I have removed the ‘register for an account’ from the CSS? So, how to point ‘register to read more’ to another page (or even better, a PayPal ‘buy now’ page)???

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is holding us back with the site now.

    Many thanks.

You can also restrict access by :

    1. Using CB to set up different types of registered users

    eg – free
    premium etc

    2. Use JUGA to restrict access to any article based on type of user

JUGA for Joomla 1.0 is free !

I am still trying JUGA -JUGA needs a unique id for each article and its best to do it at the time the content gets created and then published.

    Hope this helps too

Could yuou please write detailed tutorials for both Peter?

Since this is beyond the templates topic already, we can place them in the Collaborative Support Group site.

    Thanks.

    Chris,

This was the reason for the “Just curious” question that I asked you before. It is better to make the registration process electronic, and there are tools to make any transactions more secure (not perfect) — via SSL, to have “https” version of your site.

What Peter suggested about using JUGA and Community Builder are ways to achieve them too, perhaps in conjunction with the Menalto suggested script???

There is a whole area about access privileges — called ACL — that we should explore. There are programs for example that will allow permissions specifications down to individual pages, if you want.

To be honest, I’m more than happy with ‘public’ and ‘registered’, I just need the articles to show on the Section page as well as the Category page.

I’m starting to get frustrated again! >:(

Maybe today is just a bad day! 😀

Community Builder has that. I use their software only for the registration security — you need that to minimize potential spamming or god forbid, a malicious attack to your site. The CB might not have much power for the latter, but you will really get a lot of spammers, if there is no adequate protection.
