Hi,

When you update avatar for user via jomsocial / easysocial, the avatar will show up in pages of these extensions only, not user system of Joomla, you will need a 3rd party extension which gives you flexibility to add more fields and custom output for Joomla user.

When you click select button in avatar field, it will require access to Media manager. So you should check the permission of media manager section (not the Avatar field) in: Back-end > Content > Media > Registered: http://prntscr.com/hhlmlv

And set as you wish as by default ‘Registered’ user group doesn’t have permission to access.
