    Hi Everyone, very strange error.

    I received an e-mail 48 hours ago:

    “Hello Administrator,

    A new User has registered at Quest Bulgaria.
    This e-mail contains their details:

    Name – Guy Hamilton Simcock”

    Plus his username and e-mail details.

    Strange thing is, I log in as Admin and this user doesn’t appear in my user list. I’ve searched, sorted by Name, Date Registered and he’s just not there!

    Anyone think why?
    Thanks
    Chris

    Another 6 users registered in the last 6 hours. None of them appear in my user list.

    ANYONE?

    I am losing subscribers and money here 😡

    hey quest – just thinking, are you just using joomla’s registration or a cb one?

    have you had a look to see if these users are in the backend db?

    Hi anisjolly

    I’m using standard JoomlaCore for Registration. I have purchased a 3rd party user extension as I want more stats (location, occupation, etc.), but not installed it yet.

    Nope, these users (apart from initial e-mail to Admin), are non-existent in the backend User List.

    I hope when you said you were losing your ‘wife and little one’ it’s nothing sad, just a weekend away perhaps!!!

    Thanks
    Chris

    HI questbg !
    this is strange problem , please go to phpmyadmin and check user table in database of your site :
    – If that users have added to database => threre is a problem with user component in administrator => please try to replace administrator/components/com_users folder by default folder of of joomla.
    – If users haven’t been added to database => there is problem with function register of user component in frontend => please try to replace components/com_users folde by default folder of joomla.

    Note : don’t forget backup old folders.

    Can you also try to register yourself as a “fake” user? Then you can follow it better.

    Thanks both. I think I’ve discovered something ‘significant’ although, I still don’t know how to ‘fix’ it :((

    I was doing as Menalto suggested yesterday by creating a ‘fake’ user (myself) to see what happened.

    I registered via the registration form and received the “you will be sent an activiation e-mail” kind of message.

    I received an e-mail saying a new user had registered. As before, I log into the backend as Admin and check the User list … no new user with the name I registered with!?!

    Very odd. The e-mail address I used for the ‘dummy’ registration never received an e-mail activation link (I checked this for 24 hours … nothing!).

    Now for the very strange thing:

    Today, by pure chance, I was fiddling around in my ‘test’ site. When I first built the site, I was using a subdomain http://www.joomla.questbg.com before we went live last week, when I transferred everything to the main domain at http://www.questbg.com

    I set up the ‘sub-domain’ to use a duplicate database so I could continue to use it for testing purposes, installing 3rd party extensions and ‘fiddling’ with any code, prior to loading any mods to the live site.

    The strange thing: all the new users that registered last week, but never got an activation e-mail appear in the User List on the old subdomain test site?

    So, somewhere, something is still pointing to the old subdomain, not the new site?

    Any ideas where I can look for this?

    Thanks
    Chris

    Take a look in the configuration.php file on your live site. Did you do the needed changes there before you went live?

    var $log_path = '';
    var $tmp_path = '';
    var $live_site = '';
    var $host = '';
    var $user = '';
    var $db = '';
    var $password = '';

    Thanks Menalto … got it! Database field was set to old ‘test’ database on the subdomain!

    Brillaint. Please mark ‘solved’ 🙂
