I have mods done to my default registration form (recaptcha plugin), and when I upload the hacked file none of the changes appear. They do work on another site, with a different template. Therefore, I can only think that this template is overriding the default registration page somehow. Is this true? And if so, where do I insert my hacks so they appear.

Yes, There is template override for default registration form 🙂

You can make the specific modifications in this file::

plugins/system/jat3/base-themes/default/html/com_user/register/default.php file
