The "remove footer" instructions I’ve found all require changes to the template. I’ve been trained to make all changes in custom.css so upgrades are easier.
Is there any way to do that or inside the template setting I may have missed.

Hi
custom.css files is used to override the style changes and defined new custom style .
could u provide more details what do u mean by inside template (remove footer). so i can take a look on your issue .
