I would like to remove the fades on the left and right of the top banner. Can that be done?

Sorry but I can’t see the top banner anywhere, can you post here the capture and show the top banner you mentioned.

Yes, they are background images. Look in mod_jaslideshowlite.css Comment out line 74 and 85.
