I am trying to remove the top menu….I want the side menu only…

Where do I make this change?

First I am using Joomla 1.5.7

I have turned off top module and unpublished all top menu items and still have it showing.

It obviously is the same as the main menu as only the same ones are showing…So where do I set it so only left menu works…
