November 23, 2008 at 9:53 pm #135638I am using JA Teline 2 at present on my website but now want to have a different template instead.
Is there an easy way to do this, or will I have to delete the existing site first?
Thank you

November 23, 2008 at 9:58 pm #280028It depends, if you have a lot of content then i would just do a new install using the quickstart so you dont have much work getting the new template running propery.
If you have a lot of content then doing it manually might be a better option.

December 19, 2008 at 12:05 pm #283477The simple way, if you don’t have too much on the site already, is to change templates is to install a new template from Extentions/ Template Manager.
Then you select that template and make it the default template. However, not all module positions will be the same maybe and there might be a bit of tweaking to do to get it all the way you want, Logo, footers, etc. Before you do this, you should make sure you have a back up of the site.
If after this you don’t like the template or it does not work, go back and make the old template the default again, and you are back where you started.
I hope this is a help.

December 19, 2008 at 12:17 pm #283481What i would do is download the quickstart, and install it on a subfolder on your domain for example http://www.mysite/new if possible install it in a new clean database.
Like this you will get the complete site looking like the demo page, so you wont have to manually install and configure all components and settings.
Install a export component on your old install to export all articles, sections and category’s.
Import the articles etc into your new site, and complete the finetuning of your new template/site.This way all visitors wont be confrontated with you adjusting testing and changing the site.
When you are done move everything from your old site (root folder in html) in a subfolder like siteOLD. Move everything from the subfolder NEW that you made in the start into the root folder and your new site has become your main site.
Then you’r done 🙂

December 20, 2008 at 6:51 am #283562You mean to say, I can easily export all articles and modules from one site to other. Does it take long time for export and import if the articles reside on the same domain.

December 20, 2008 at 6:57 am #283563I have not used this Export Component, but after reading about it here, I looked it up and downloaded it, as well as reading about it. The comments were very favorable and said it took 5-10 minutes. I imagine it depeds on how much is on the site, but if it is on the same server, it should be quite fast.

December 20, 2008 at 3:41 pm #283619Yeah it goes quite fast, if someone did a complete database backup (wich doesnt take long at all) this is even shorter.
The plus points of doing it in a sub folder, is that your new installation already has all the right settings for your webhost, so no need to change database settings, ftp settings and all other stuff when you move the folder to main. You will only need to change ftp’s folders root path.
