I have an existing J2.5.9 site, that is getting around 25% mobile visits and growing and I would like to upgrade it from an existing JA Template using JA T3 V2 to an all new singing and dancing responsive template based on the all new T3 framework V1.2.1.

I have tried this on a copy of the livesite using JA_Brisk and have just tried it again using JA_Argo but with limited success.

It kind of works, but modifying the template settings doesn’t seem to work.

Also when looking at the ‘template manager’ the ‘template information’ panel and the ‘framework information panels appear in their usual position for every selected tab in the configuration – PLUS – the contents of the assignment tab appear at the bottom of the screen for every tab selected.

On my original attempt to update to Brisk these options were not even sticking when saved and changes made in layout and thememagic didn’t reflect to site.

My current attempt using local host seems to stick so far, but the display is not good and I’m not confident to proceed in case it all goes kaput!

    Procedure was:
    – copy livesite to localhost
    – install and test operation to match livesite
    – change default template to Beez5
    – uninstall ja_orisite template
    – uninstall JA-T3V2 plugin
    – install T3 V1.2.1 plugin
    – install ja_Argo template (not quickstart as I already have data)
    – no other modules or compnents were changed.

I have also succesfully installed a fresh installation of JA_Argo to localhost and a fresh installation of JA_Brisk to a temporary url I have out in the world, without too many issues (although the Brisk site is very dodgy and unreliable at this time.)

Neither of the clean sites exhibit the above problems. The localhost site is on J2.5.9 and the temporary site is J3.0.3 (I find the admin panels hard to get used to on J3.0)

For the purpose of this site, I want to have a footer panel (I’m not concerned about the infinity scrolling as this is a company website not a blog or newssite), but I’m not keen to spend time assigning new module positions etc, if it’s all going to collapse in a heap (sorry, aussie expression!).

Does anyone have any ideas on what I’m doing wrong or what I may be able to change to fix this issue? I really do think that responsive layouts are the way of the future with the increase in tablets, phablets and phones.

    Many thanks in advance!

    Hi pb66,

Your process is relatively accurate, but lacking in the few points :

<blockquote>- install ja_Argo template (not quickstart as I already have data)</blockquote>

download and install other extensions accompanying template

    – JA Twitter Module for J25 & J30
    – JA Disqus Debate Echo plugin for J2.5 & J3.0
    – JA Bookmark plugin for J2.5 & J3.0

    in http://www.joomlart.com/forums/downloads.php?do=cat&id=477
<blockquote>- no other modules or compnents were changed.</blockquote>

Disable all modules used in your site (note them down if you want to use it in new site).
Download quickstart of template and install it. Open site quickstart of JA Argo and configure all modules in site same as they were in JA Brisk. You can read about the module configs here here : http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/ja-argo-template-userguide/#post-486609

    Thanks for your help..

Sorry, your reply didn’t appear on my screen at the time I bumped 🙁

The only question that I have is that the installation of the quickstart package is a full Joomla installation with the template and sample data included. What will happen to my existing site and data?

I’m trying to migrate from JA_Orisite to JA_Argo.

I really don’t want to have to reenter all of the information and page layouts, just want to migrate to a responsive template, then tweek relevant pages to look ‘prettyer’. I’m also using Virtuemart as a product catalog for sample colours (like paint swatches) – I fully understand that there may be some conformity issues with the apperance after I change as there is no template for Virtuemart included.

    Thanks,

    Hi pb66,

Because, each template, uses different structure position, modules… so
    <blockquote>
I’m trying to migrate from JA_Orisite to JA_Argo.
    </blockquote>
you only configure all modules in site JA_Orisite to module positions in JA_Argo.

Virtuemart style, it’s harmonize with template JA_Orisite, and it not sure concordant with template JA_Argo. In the case, you need re-style it.

    Note : template JA_Orisite used T3v2 plugin but JA_Argo used T3 plugin. It’s different.

    Thanks,

But my real issue is not with changing the front end appearance.

    The issue I have is

<blockquote>It kind of works, but modifying the template settings doesn’t seem to work.

    It’s a backend issue.

    Thanks for the response.

I’ve actually pulled the whole site down and started again at a testing URL that I use http://www.3mwindowtint.com.au (Still haven’t got to using it for the reason that I registered it!)

I follow the procedure as above, but this time I disabled every plugin and component except for the Joomla ones and K2. Installed the template (only – not quickstart) and the T3 plugin and started rebuilding the site to look pretty in Argo.

Everything was going well until I re-enabled the Perfect-web AJAX Popup contact form http://www.perfect-web.co/joomla/modules/ajax-popup-contact-form/documentation#doc39. Then the problem that I described with the back end not appearing correctly started.

So I assume it’s an incompatibility with T3 and the Ajax contact form.

If you’ve got any ideas I’d love to hear them as I quite like this form on my site(s).

    Regards,

    Hi pb66,

Modules “Module Ajax Popup Contact Form” – it is commercial. So, I can not download and test it in local.

Pls send PM with admin account of your site for closer checking.

    Hi pb66,

This tip : http://www.perfect-web.co/joomla/modules/ajax-popup-contact-form/documentation#doc39 is applied for old version JAT3 v2 framework. WIth JA Argo template, it is using T3 framework which use only default Joomla cache.

Hence in this case, just config as user guide and set cache of module to No caching“.

Just for the purpose of closure, note the following.

I recently upgraded the Perfect Ajax Contact form from V2.3.5 to V3.0.5.

On my live site running T3 and Argo, V2 had no issues and worked fine. The contact form V3 consistently had ‘Internal server error’ and wouldn’t send the contact!

Installed a test on locahost – worked fine! Installed all the same modules and had everything set the same (apart from the content) and still no good!

Anyway, after four days of mucking around I finally solved the problem.

If you change this setting on the attached screenshot to do with Post Form data checking in the security section of SH404sef.

This fixed the problem with the contact form – but amazingly it also fixed the display issue detailed above in the template administration settings!

Something to keep in mind for the future.

    Enjoy!
