You know, my views on JA has just decreased even more after reading your posts in this thread. Having this topic in this forum and site is completely legitimate because you offer “FeedGator” if your quickstart install. Which means you provide some support for it since its a main feature used with your template. In my eye’s you’ve been completely disrespectful with your comments instead of pitching in with your community and having a normal conversation about the concerns of RSS Feeds. Yes you have all the right saying this isn’t the correct place that this should be asked, but this thread gives a place for the normal users of JA Wall that has RSS FeedGator installed with it that opportunity to investigate and suggest the legal actions that could happen.
Because any normal person using this that may have not thought about legal issues would never know because it wasn’t posted as a warning. What should of been done by JA was to put a warning in place with their JA Wall about the legal actions that could happen by using RSS Feeds since you offer it as a “Feature” in this template.
——————————————-
Anyways back on topic,
Thank you for doing the research on this matter, I still believe that using RSS Feeds can become an issue even if taking the above steps mentioned. I believe the best practice here is to contact the company you are wanting to pull RSS Feeds from and get written permission to do so because they may want limitations set on your site to display that information.

Absolutely correct. And when you have problems getting it to work correctly, then PLEASE let us know so we can determine if it is an issue on our end, FeedGator’s end, or operator error. That’s the purpose of the Forums…not to police users on how they use a tool – that is far from our responsibility.Including FeedGator in JA Wall is just the latest integration of amazing tools by Joomlart! – K2, Kunena, JomSocial, just to name a few.
This thread began, under the original headline of “ARE RSS FEEDS IN JA WALL Illegal?” ( a title still remaining on Ticket # GTO-385-65072) And later the author tried to insinuate the point again by saying we were “touchy” to the topic.
At Joomlart we take great offense to anyone suggesting our work is criminal. While the intent of the original poster may have been to awaken those new to using RSS feeds in a website to the basic courtesy of requesting permission before using another’s work – and he did so by asking if JoomlArt was committing a crime.
Answering, and closing the thread seemed more a reserved, ‘classy’ approach, at the time, than banning and deleting.
I’m sorry if your “views of Joomlart” have decreased by our defense of being called out for “illegal” activities.
JoomlArt is more than just me and our team of moderators and developers…we are a HUGE community of talented, creative, smart, intelligent members who we enjoy working with to help take our templates and transform them into amazing and useful applications all around the world.
We will continually stretch the limits of Joomla!, add incredible integrations of amazing products, all to provide the best product available.Of that we will never make apology.

June 1, 2012 at 5:10 pm #455652I am very offended by you insinuating that I accused Joomlart of committing a crime.
Kindly retract your statement.
I do not want to discuss this topic further. I have done the research and posted a ‘heads up’ for Wall Builders. It is time to get back to the business of building a wall.
Respectfully,
Rene

June 1, 2012 at 5:19 pm #455654JA offers excellent templates and help in the forum. Unfortunately, nothing in your posts or actions regarding this topic has be classy.
As mention in other topics, I speak with my wallet, and I don’t pay to hear, read, participate in or take verbal abuse from people in general, let alone moderators from the company I deal with.

June 1, 2012 at 5:44 pm #455656Feedgator is simply a component provided on the JED and also shipped with JA Wall. How you use that tool really is up to you. By providing it JA are doing nothing wrong at all. We will provide support on the functionality of the product, how you choose to use it really is up to you. If you decide that you want to use feeds from sources that are not happy with you doing so then you either have to look to your concience or to the law depending on what country you live. In some countries it is perfectly legal, in other you must seek permission for it to be legal. The product is not to blame, only how you choose to use the product.
So please take a step back, if you have any questions regarding the functionality of the superb JA Wall then we will be glad to advise. We cannot advise on how you choose to get your content whether you use feedgator or cut and paste to create it. It reallt is the same thing.

June 1, 2012 at 6:02 pm #455662I said I was not going to post again but I would like to respond to phill.
@phill,Please read the thread in its’ entirety. No one is suggesting that Joomlart is doing anything wrong by including the great component Feedgator.
This whole thread was started as a ‘heads up’ for Wall Builders. When using RSS feeds for content, the content builder should be aware that RSS is copyrighted and legal problems may arise.
However, one of the moderators (jwbrett) has chosen to single out this thread and then insinuate that I am accusing Joomlart of criminal acts. Nothing can be further from the truth and I take great exception to this insinuation.
Sincerely,
Rene

June 1, 2012 at 6:44 pm #455668Rene,
I would suggest not to take it personally. John and Phill are the most respected of the Mods here and they would not single out you in person but the topic and its implications.
First thing first Feedgator is 3rd party extension. Why we used feedgator?
Coz we needed to generate and add 100’s of articles as content source to JA Wall demo (thats why the quickstart was 120 mb+ initially), if we are to add lorem ipsum it would not have worked. The idea of JA Wall is to present the content from com_content or com_k2, how you vet your content and sources is user lookout and can not be in any slightest or remotest possibility be blamed or even hinted towards JoomlArt.
Feedgator is an 3rd party extension available and listed on JED, so there is nothing wrong in our using or providing with our product. If it is illegal in one’s country, then being familiar with one’s law of his / her land is the citizen’s duty and that carelessness can not be passed to JA.
JA Wall is a demo of what can be achieved and how well it can be represented. Thats what we advertise and thats what we support.
Keep up the good work and hope to see you active as you have been.
Thanks

June 1, 2012 at 7:55 pm #455679I think something is being overlooked here that Rene is trying to point out. It’s not about the support of FeedGator anymore, or hardly was about that in this topic to begin with. The only reason FeedGator came up in the first place was Rene was directed to post on their site and not here about the concern.
Now to the real issue at hand, it’s understandable that john is a respected moderate, I just believe this thread and his postings were a little out of hand and disrespectful with no real reason behind it when Rene was only bring a topic of concern that the users of JA Wall should be aware of and look into the legal issues.

June 1, 2012 at 8:29 pm #455681Probably best to leave this thread at that now. Nobody was trying to hurt the feelings of anyone else but I feel people may have read the posts that way.
JA Wall is a superb product and included with it are some superb tools to help you create your content. The main thing is that you have fun using them. When you have built your sites please come back aand tell us how you used Wall, showcase your site and tell us your experience with those tools and the fun or the drawbacks you run into. It will be great to hear.
