Hi everyone,
I’m very new to the world of joomla and the learning curve is steep! I am using the latest version of joomla and the teline III template. I am trying to get my RSS feed working and I cannot seem to figure it out! I’m assuming that the syndication bit is the ‘push’ part – sending a summary of all the latest site content out to anyone who subscribes? And I assume the mod_feed is the bit that brings in a feed from an external source?
It’s the mod_feed bit that I would like to have working. I enter the url of the feed and position the module but it returns an ‘error loading feed data’ message.
Any ideas on what I’m doing wrong?
Thanks for any guidance in advance.

October 27, 2009 at 5:36 pm #321792Got a URL of the page where the feed is returning the error that you can share?
October 27, 2009 at 5:46 pm #321795Hi jbrett,
I’m afraid it’s behind a corporate firewall (which I realise is really unhelpful!). Just understanding the relationship between ‘mod syndication’ and ‘mod feed’ might help me work out the answer. Are they two completely separate modules that have no bearing on one another at all or are they dependant?
The feed I am trying to display is the bbc political newsfeed at this URL.
http://newsrss.bbc.co.uk/rss/newsonline_uk_edition/uk_politics/rss.xml
I’d like to display the top five stories from that feed on the homepage and I’ve been assuming I do that through mod_feed.

October 27, 2009 at 6:45 pm #321802Ben,
Gotcha. This is a Joomla core issue (the modules – both of them – come with Joomla…and not part of a Joomlart template) and it is one that has been around for a while.
Some Joomla updates fix it…and then the next update comes out and the problem returns. Here’s a pretty good read on the nagging issue…and perhaps a solution for you…but it appears to be predicated on how your hosting is set up.

Hope this helps.
You might want to look at using a different, more robust RSS handler found in the Joomla extensions area: http://extensions.joomla.orgGood luck,
