I need help in2 issues related to your SMASHBOARD template:
1) I followed all the instructions in order to upload and install RTL second language ARABIC but nothing happened and I do NOT see the other language icon on the front end. I installed the second language ARABIC from the extensions menu, then went to the Template screen and enabled RTL then combiled lLESS to CSS but nothing happened. I need your help please
2) changing the English main menu FONTS. I want to change the Main menu font but can NOT do it at all. I need a font that supports Arabic letter like ARIAL or GARMMOND. The installed fixed font does not allow Arabic letters. I just get question marks instead. Please check and see if you could change the font of the main menu to ARIAL for example please.
May 18, 2014 at 7:34 pm #535592THIS TEMPLATE DOES NOT ACCEPT ANY OTHER LANGUAGE.
I have so far worked with tens of Joomla templates if NOT hundreds and all of them are built with the flexibility of being able to write in any language. This template (Smashboard) does not allow changing fonts for menus and does not allow writing in any other language like Arabic foe meny titles, article titles or even article texts. This is a real problem. I worked with many templates and I able to change menu fonts easily and write in Arabic any where I want: menus, article titles, article texts and all.What is the problem here, is this problem only with Smashbard or all of your templates?
I understand that you have something called RTL and I have tried to install RTL but failed completely to accomplish that. I find myself incapable of writing in Arabic either in LTR or installing the RTL.
Please I need a solution and I do advise that you free the template users hands to select any fonts they want to use for menus or for whatever.By the way, Joomla allow writing in Arabic easily without a problem but your template restrict the user from writing in arabic which Joomla has allowed and facilitated.>:(>:(>:(>:(>:(>:(>:(>:(>:(>:(

May 20, 2014 at 8:13 am #535828Greetings Saif Bitar,
I would like to clarify that our JA Smashboard template works properly with Arabic language, you can see the same in our demo site. The issue here is that some languages like Arabic have special characters and it requires UTF8 database collation. So firstly, please try to change the database collation of your site to UTF8 (you can follow this tip: http://www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/admin-tools-the-quick-and-easy-way-to-database-collation-in-joomla/ )
Then you can try to re-create menu items again. If you want to change the font for main menu specific, you can open this file: /templates/ja_smashboard/css/template.css, at approx line 1325:
.t3-mainnav .navbar .nav > li > a > span {
display: none;
padding-left: 1em;
position: absolute;
white-space: nowrap;
font-family: 'Open Sans', arial, sans-serif;
font-weight: 300;
font-size: 2em;
line-height: 2.5em;
text-align: left;
margin-left: -1px;
opacity: 0.8;
filter: alpha(opacity=80);
-webkit-transition: opacity 0.35s ease-out;
-moz-transition: opacity 0.35s ease-out;
-o-transition: opacity 0.35s ease-out;
transition: opacity 0.35s ease-out;
}The font-family is declared here and you can change to your desired font-family.
For the language icon, please refer to this tip of Joomla to know how to create a multilanguage site: http://help.joomla.org/files/EN-GB_multilang_tutorial.pdf , the basic steps are:
– WIth each language, you create one menu and create content for it
– Enable plugin / module for language and you will see the language iconsPlease try to change the database collation and let me know how it goes.
May 20, 2014 at 8:29 am #535832Dear Saguaros,
Thanks a lot for your detailed reply. All works well now with typing and displaying Arabic characters. I followed the instructions you have posted and changed the database collation of the site. All works well now. Thanks a lot for your help.The thing which I wonder about, is why only your templates require this process and not other templates supplied by other template makers? Does it mean that I have to do the same thing if I need to use another template of yours?
Now, I have 2 questions:
ONE: which is rather important, is how do I switch from LTR to RTL ? until now, the process as described in your tutorial does NOT work. Can you help me discover what is wrong there please?
TWO: The tutorial you sent me for displaying the second language tab is for Joomla 1.7. I use Joomla 3.3 or Joomla 3.2. I tried to follow the steps as described but things are completely different. AS I understood, I can NOT do that with quickstart packages and this should be done with freshly installed Joomla and Not and quickstart template package of yours. Is that right?I appreciate your help and verification. Regarding the 2 quistions above.
Furthermore, If you need help from my part with displaying correct Arabic translated Templates, I am available to input that effort from my side. I noticed in your illustration tutorial that you have used an on-line translator which is real funny as it does not translate correctly, instead, it translates word by word and makes the complete thing real funny and not realistic. I can provide and offer my help to your side for a better displayed Arabic screens and sites if you see that necessary and helpful
Best regards

May 21, 2014 at 8:48 am #536026Hi Saif,
You must create specific menu, specific content for Arabic language. At this moment, there is only menu / content for English language. Please check out this tips: http://multilingual-joomla-demo.cloudaccess.net/multi-lingual-steps-by-steps.html , it provides steps in details.
