Blaine was saying that I have a lot running in Legacy….In 1.7 I am not able to see them, so how could I switch them to 1.7……are they doing any harm?

There is no lagacy mode in 1.6.
For Joomla 1.7, please read this Joomla.org documentation.

Another one of those “Wished I’ve never asked question” 😀 if I understood code and things I would be in my sql database now removing all records of duplicate files that are stubborn and wont un-install, I would also know how to deal with your points about legacy.

Wasn’t trying to answer why the flags are popping was just clarifying the Legacy question.
And yes, I have suggested a clean install as well.

There is a huge amount of data on his site.

Question really is, how did Phil migrate? Surely the migration would have stripped out all the old plugins if it had been done properly. How did you do it Phil?

    As Phil said….tons of data…..

    Migration was done using jupgrade

old plugins are saying they are not there or files are empty so cant be removed…….

Delete through cPanel or FTP those empty folders

Actually, we will probably have to remove the entries from the database to clear them correctly.

    Phil,

How did you carry out the migrateion? What tool did you use?

I explained to Blaine that I had read somewhere on the web about removing left over file via the database but I ‘ve not got the knowledge to start jumping into mysql and php’s

OK, I understand now. When you use jUpgrade it tries its best to carry ove all the plugin and module information it can. While this may seem good in some cases it causes problems.

First thing you need to do is make a complete list of all the plugins, modules and component types you were using on the old site and all that are on the new. Then we can work out what should and should not be there. Once we know what to remove we can edit the database to do so. If you can work out what needs removing I can work with you to remove the entries.
