Hi,
Whenever I turn the Search Engine Optimization on the links in the top menu go invalid (404 error). Can this be because they are e.g.
http://www.mysite.com/index.php?option=com_contact&view=contact&id=1&Itemid=57&Itemid=57
instead of
http://www.mysite.com/index.php?option=com_contact&view=contact&id=1&Itemid=57

I am worried about the second &Itemid=57 not being interpreted correctly when SEO is on.

Site: http://www.expatshoppingguide.com – Joomal version: 1.5 – Module position for Top menu is User 3 (the ones with the icons)
I tried changing the module postion for the Top Menu and then the links are OK.

Hi Hainn84,
Thanks for looking into this. For now: I just put on the ‘Search engine friiendly URLs’ option in the Joomla Admin section but I can use Apache mod_rewrite if required.

you need to enable mod rewrite and change your htaccess.txt to .htaccess

Hi MJ,
The result is the same with mod_rewrite as without. The items in postion user_3 give 404 errors becuse they are not interpreted correctly.
The FAQ link e.g. changes into http://www.expatshoppingguide.com/faq&Itemid=55 and this is because there is Itemid=55 twice in the destination link when I put the CEO settings back off. I have tried to look at the code where the second ItemID is coming rom but cannot find where. NOw I am trying to set up a mod_rewrtie to get rid of it but untill now have had no luck. I am no expert in this area but I am trying to get there 😀

Solved this by removing the second switch block to add the ItemId from Iconmenu.class.php.
