I am running one of the templates here, my question is how can I turn the Search Engine Friendly URLs on, note that I am running the site on Windows platform and not Unix so I have been told that it will not work.

I went and enabled this function in the Global configurations >> SEO Settings but I got an error.

any one knows, do let me know.

    Thanks:-[

That is exactly where you enable the SEO settings.

But, at the moment Search Engine Friendly URLS in Joomla! is a hit-or-miss proposition.
The reason you got the error..in 99% of the cases…is that there is a conflict with one or more modules/components/plugins you are using.

So as much as I hate to say it, I’d scrap the SEO URLS…and just make sure you do your Metadata homework on each of the pages and you should be good to go.

I’ve lost two wives trying to figure out what the problem is. 🙂 But I REALLY miss my dog.

    John.

unfortunately Metadata is ignored by the search engines (I do SEO for a living) because of all the people who have spammed them in the past. Optimize away, but youwill get little to no results for your efforts.

joomla is built on the lamp stack and is made for apache server, not windows. the SEF button is looking for the .htaccess file, which doesn’t work in windows.

usually a host will switch a domain to another OS without a fee. have you asked.
