When I enable Search Engine Friendly URLs on http://www.abstractdesignstudios.com if you click any link off the homepage then the template/css doesnt seem to apply itself to that page. How can I fix this?

February 26, 2009 at 7:07 am #293484Hi,
If you check with virtuemart forum, the SEF feature doesn’t support latest version of virtuemart. I don’t know if can support now.

You could look into using a 3rd party component for SEF friendly urls instead of the joomla built in. Which quite honestly is horrible for seo anyway. There are two on the market.
1.) sh404sef — I personally use this one, works well has some security features built in that has stopped plenty of attacks on my site. Also has an option to use Project Honey Pot which is a database of known spammers, it blocks their Ips soon as they hit your site. Setup can be an issue for a few people, depending on what you types of components you are using.

2.) Artio JoomSEF — This is another fairly popular SEF component. I have not personally used this one but it is second on the popularity list.

February 27, 2009 at 3:20 am #293663HI nefar,
Even with sh404sef & Artio JoomSEF, they don’t support Virtuemart latest version as well.

February 28, 2009 at 1:44 pm #293916Tested it with ArtioSEF, the problem that comes up with this component is that the breadcrumbs from Joomla do not work no more inside the VM parts of the site. That means, whenever you activate the Joomla breadcrumbs navigation to be shown under e.g. “shop”, and when you are on the flypage or the browsepage, the links downwards the categories will not work and you land on an error page. The only solution for this may be to deactivate the breadcrumbs inside the shop region of the site and to only display the VM Navigation which works also with ArtioSEF on, but this is not a nice solution, as now you only have breadcrumbs on the product page and not more in the categories too. You also can’t show “Homepage” with the VM Navigation..
There are several fixes for sh404 and other components out there, just recently added, that shall solve those issues with VM. Do not know an url right now, should all be listed in the new extension directory on virtuemart.net or in the extensions section on Joomla.org. There are also some VM only SEF tools.
Plus, you can also test this with some 3rd party breadcrumbs modules out there, maybe those do not show this error, as ArtioSEF is a good extension, only problems was or is this breadcrumbs issue in VirtueMart.
