May 29, 2008 at 12:38 am #129020Hello. Can someone explain how to get a second Joomla web site running in my xampp environment? I’m new to Joomla and Joomlart templates.
I have successfully installed xampp and a quickstart Joomlart template on my pc running windows-xp. The quickstart template included Joomla1.5 which I unzipped into Joomla15 in the htdocs directory of xampp. This all worked fine and I have been exploring the template and learning Joomla.
Now I want to create a second web site for testing on my pc, using a different Joomlart template and different content. How do I do this? Should I download another quickstart template which includes Joomla 1.5 and unzip it to another directory under htdocs? I tried this but it does not work? I get :
“The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request. Either the server is overloaded or there was an error in a CGI script.” when I go to go to http://localhost/joomla15_new. :confused:I hope someone can help. Thanks!

May 29, 2008 at 6:26 am #250996You should have put website nr 1 in a own folder on localhost, lets say web1, when you gonna start with website 2 you can add a folder called web2(the names is just some fake ones, you can call the folders anything you want).
When access http://localhost you get the XAMPP screen where you have all tools available.
When access http://localhost/web1 you get website, to access website 2 you go to http://localhost/web2 and so on. This way you can have as many websites/joomla installations as you want under the same server.
Either you need to restore the files or install xampp on new and set it up as i said above.missyw Friendmissyw

May 30, 2008 at 1:24 am #251107Thanks for being so kind to reply. Sorry to be a pain, but I’m so new at this I still don’t understand! 😮 I hope someone can help.
You say:
“You should have put website nr 1 in a own folder on localhost, lets say web1,”
– I thought that’s what I did when I created the folder xampp>htdocs>Joomla15 and installed the first Joomla and template there. Isn’t Joomla15 the ‘own folder’ you are talking about? You say:
“when you gonna start with website 2 you can add a folder called web2(the names is just some fake ones, you can call the folders anything you want).”
Isn’t that what I did when I created xampp>htdocs>Joomla15_new and unzipped a Joomla quickstart set of files including the second web site template? Isn’t Joomla15_new the ‘web2’ folder you are talking about? :confused:You say: “When access http://localhost you get the XAMPP screen where you have all tools available.” This is correct.
You say:”When access http://localhost/web1 you get website, to access website 2 you go to http://localhost/web2 and so on.” This is correct for web1: When I access:http://localhost/joomla15/ I get the log in prompt for website 1. However, this is not true for web2! :(( When I access:http://localhost/Joomla15_new I get the error message:
Server error!
The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request. Either the server is overloaded or there was an error in a CGI script.
Error 500
localhost
05/30/08 11:21:44
Apache/2.2.8 (Win32) DAV/2 mod_ssl/2.2.8 OpenSSL/0.9.8g mod_autoindex_color PHP/5.2.5Is this because of some hierarchy error in having Joomla15 and Joomla15_new both in htdocs?
You say:
“Either you need to restore the files or install xampp on new and set it up as i said above.” – why do I need to restore the files or install xampp on new? How do I set it up as you said above in terms of directories?Sorry to be so confused!

May 30, 2008 at 2:56 am #251122Mmmm … further musings …
I have just made a copy of my first web site and called it Joomla 2 (in xampp>htdocs). I am able to access Joomla2 via http://localhost/joomla2/ with no problems! (i.e. no horrible server error 500). So maybe there is a problem with the second template that I downloaded. I will experiment with that – perhaps download a different template. -
