I’ve tried a couple of ways to get the SEF URL rewrite working in Teline IV, but if I have it turned on (with or without “Use URL Rewriting” turned on) the template will not work. With ONLY SEF on, the page will load, but none of the CSS loads, so it’s just text on a white screen. With BOTH turned on, I just get a 404 page not found error. Any ideas what might be happening here? I’m running a magazine, so ultimately I’d really like to have SEF on to make it easier for people to share links.

Have you renamed the htaccess.txt to .htaccess ?

after done this step enable the Search Engine Friendly URLs and Use URL rewriting

    That still didn’t work. I still get a 404.

One thing I do notice is that with SEF turned OFF, I’m noticing that the urls seem to have some extraneous info added at the end of the URL (&Itemid=490)

Deleting that last little part renders the page correctly. So I’m thinking solving the mystery of where that extraneous URL info is coming from might also fix the SEF issue.

Since I’m still early in the build process, and since I added a BUNCH of modules to this site, I’ve decided to delete everything and start from scratch. This will let me load one module at a time and test to see where the problem set in (I hope!). I will report back tonight/tomorrow if the same problem pops up, and hopefully be able to pinpoint the cause.

Okay, I’ve done a complete reinstall using the quick installation package. Aside from using the extension maanger tool to update the plugins and modules, I’ve done nothing else to alter the original site files.

Turning SEF on results in a File not found message

Thus far, I haven’t run into any broken links with the setup, but I would like to get to the bottom of the SEF not working.
