    Hello,

My site is looking great but seo is not looking good. What is the best and easiest way to add h1, h2 and h3 tags to the site?
When I check view source I notice that all of the h tags start with a link. I am not sure if it’s great for seo:
    <h1 class=”article-title”> <a href=”/news-blogs/video-diaries/gillian-scott.html”> Gillian Scott</a></h1>
    <h2 class=”article-title”> <a class=”article-link” href=”/news-blogs/around-the-web/my-nelson-mandela-page.html”> My Nelson Mandela Page</a> </h2>

First you ask for a suggestion for an easiest way, then you say i’m not sure it’s great for SEO

You need to take a decision

My suggestion ? leave all as is now and you will see results soon

Thank you for your answer but are you saying that it’s not bad for SEO this way? The reason I asked the site dropped in traffic so I want to find out why.

Well your website dropped in traffic but i don’t think google was so fast to crawl your content and declass your pages for the SEO settings you had in your website, probably there is another reason, did you tried to analyze website with google webmaster tool ? you can find many other reason probably

I did but it doesn’t tell me much. Do you have any suggestions as to what the reason could be?

This is the graph from google webmaster tools. As you can see the traffic dramatically went down after using the template.

Did you try to analyze with google webmaster tool and apply tips in above reference link? It would be great if you can share your findings here.

I was already applying seo methods in the article before using the new template. Nothing else changed. I was hoping you would have a solution because I think somehow the intro text, article image description, headers etc are blocked from google.

    Hi Simplesite,

I checked the traffic graph pic you put up in one of your reply, for me the timeline coincides with the penguin algorithm update of google. http://moz.com/google-algorithm-change .

Traffic and SERP rankings have fluctuated a lot from that period on for many webmasters. If you have tried offpage seo such as link building with other sources, you should check to confirm if its penguin or not.

Linking the article title is default joomla and you can turn off the feature in backend but it will disable linking in the category blog view also. One of the option is to override it to not link title in the article page view.
We tend not to override joomla way of doing things, i did search on google to see if hyperlink in h1 titles is recommended or not, so far nothing conclusive on that. I would be discussing this with the senior devs.

    Regards

    Interesting point.

However, I have never really paid that much attention to these tactics. As a one woman business I just don’t have the time to adjust to the algorithms every time google decides to change something. I just follow the basics: onpage seo, sending out newsletters, smm promotion. No off page black hat techniques. So I think it’s very unlikely but please share your thoughts.

What I suspect is that as clever as the template is SEO wasn’t thought through and somehow the intro text, image and important tags like Browser Page Title and Page heading are invisible. That is killing for SEO.
