Ok thought it might be worth asking this question here, hope its the right forum.

Say for example we have a domain / website on bobsdogproducts.com,
and dogfood is our main product.
we also have a domain of dogfood.com

Would it be beneficial to move the website onto the dogfood.com domain instead of using the bobsdogproducts.com?

Or would it be better to make a small site on dogfood.com about different dog food and then link to bobsdogproducts.com as a relevant link?

    Hope that makes sense.

you get no points for linking between sites that you own, are on the same server, and share a common ip. the SE’s know that trick and have deprecated that idea.

Your power is alwasy with the oldest domain, age is a huge factor. I recomment which ever is oldest.

As for the domain mane of dogfood.com, if it is not the oldest, put a 301 redirect ot the other domain (or visa versa) and that will send anyone who types that domain into the address bar to the other sites.

Google frowns on attempts to saturate the SE”s by using multiple related domains, and networking or linking betwwen them, and its even worse if they share content.

and yes, i know there are pople who are doing it, and thats great until you rget caught, all that has to happen is to have a competitor see what you are doing and report you, and then you may find penalties imposed on your site that destroy your rankings, or worse yet, all of your domains banned.

    Its not worth the risk

I would also post your question over at the SEF forum
    http://www.searchengineforums.com

they’ve been around since 1998 and the guys there give great advice
