June 21, 2008 at 10:43 pm #129980Hello,
I got the announcement (shown below) from my webhosting service. I wonder if the more experienced members here have any insight on how it would affect my Joomla-Joomlart scripts and databases.
Briefly, here are the changes:
- upgrade our servers to Apache 2.2
- upgrade from MySQL 4 to MySQL 5
- fastcgi => fcgid.
Thanks.
Cornelio

ATTN Important Upcoming Server Upgrades!

****************************************************************
We are currently preparing to upgrade our servers to Apache 2.2 . This change should have only positive effects on you, but we wanted to inform everyone just the same. Additionally, we will concurrently upgrade from MySQL 4 to MySQL 5. Any recent applications should be MySQL 5 compliant, but you should confirm with your application’s programmers/writers.We will also be making a change regarding fastcgi. As some of you probably know, fastcgi isn’t very stable under Apache 2.2. As such, we’re going to be switching to fcgid. Usually this switch would require you to update your .htaccess files to change the fastcgi-script handler to fcgid-script, however, we’ve worked around this and you won’t have to make any changes at all to begin using fcgid instead of fastcgi. If you’re not using Ruby on Rails, or fastcgi, you can ignore the above entirely.
We will begin this process on Monday, June 30th.
Future updates and related announcements will be posted to the community forums: http://forums.hostingcompanynamehere.com/showthread.php?t=23281
If you have any questions regarding this upcoming upgrade or your account in general, please submit a ticket via the Support tab.
Thank you for choosing …

June 22, 2008 at 8:56 am #255258If you are using Joomla 1.5 it should be ok for Joomla itself.
For the template, no problem.
For modules/components you use other than the original Joomla ones, it should be fine.
For an upgrade like this it “can” give some errors in some modules/components.cgc0202 Friendcgc0202

I am only using Joomla 1.0x mainly right now. I do not encounter the issues that many posters have shared here in the Forum. Of course, I installed several Joomla1.5x and with the Teline II template (as a QuickStart Kit), except for the ones I posted, and found solutions for, I have not really encountered the problems that others have reported here. Of course, I have not done much change in the Demo beyond correcting the obvious that we discussed — Hot Topic issues, css location, etc.
I am not too fond of some of the features too, since they seem to slow down the presentation of the page, so I unpublished them. These features that I unpublished happen to be among those that receive most postings, with people having problems.
