January 9, 2014 at 8:09 pm #193631None of the usual Joomla settings working as like “show subcategories” or setting the quantity its level.
Lets say I would like to add some subcategories to Print design at J! Pages>All Categories> and I would like to see all of them when I am in the All Categories menu item.
I have subcategories and they can be accessed by clicking the “+” sign at the right bottom corner of its parent category’s images. If I click them they expand and show all. That is perfect but I do not want to click on the “+” sign I would like to see them expanded when I am in the parent category.
In one sentence: SHOW SUBCATEGORIES 😉
Any idea would be useful!Ninja Lead ModeratorNinja Lead

January 10, 2014 at 8:33 am #518018You need to customize Categories List layout to show subcategories. I can follow my tweak for this:
Note: Please backup your file before apply following override
Download and extract my attached file. Copy and paste default_items.php file into folder templates/ja_fixel/html/com_content/categories/
Let me know how it goes.

January 10, 2014 at 10:02 am #518040Wow Ninja Lead,
Thank you, Super! It works well!
The only thing I am thinking on to restyle or rather remove the.fixel-cat-toggle
what looks a bit odd and may be unnecessary in this case.palos

January 10, 2014 at 10:55 am #518053I found that not the just the toggle unnecessary but rather the whole block of parent category in this case.
:-[ May I ask an other version with not showing the parent categories but showing only all subcategories?

January 10, 2014 at 10:48 pm #518101Hmmm, I can refine it:
I do not need to show the subcategory level 1+2 but only the 2. level. As I remember K2 would do the job but hopefully some php override can solve too.palos Friendpalos

January 12, 2014 at 10:51 am #518146Some bad news.
The modified php you sent me only works with Chrome an Safari.
Internet Explorer and Firefox cannot open subcategories at first, they need some clicks to the “+” toggle.
:(((showing only the sub level by default still would be the most logical solution)

January 13, 2014 at 9:21 am #518233I tried to help you find a fix for Internet Explorer and Firefox browser, however could not figured it out. This requires customisation from categories layout of com_content.
Have you tried to raise this in the JOOMLA forum? You might get helpful assistance there.

I think it is a nice template with some bug but if this one would be solved then it would be almost perfect!<em>@Ninja Lead 405640 wrote:</em><blockquote>Have you tried to raise this in the JOOMLA forum? You might get helpful assistance there.</blockquote>
No, really not. I trust only in your assistance 😉1 user says Thank You to palos for this useful post

January 14, 2014 at 4:18 am #518356It takes me a lot of time to work on this tweak :). Please find my fix on the attached file:

+ Download and extract my attached file
+ Copy and paste default_items.php file into templates/ja_fixel/html/com_content/categories/ path and script.js file into templates/ja_fixel/js/ path

January 14, 2014 at 2:15 pm #518429😀 It works well in IE and FF too!
Super job Ninja Lead!Thank you!
The only issue left that it still shows the upper category level what is not so logical.
Its Menu Item Type is “List All Categories”
Menu Manager: Edit Menu Item > Categories > Subcategory Levels > 2
This means level 1+2 or e.g. all the levels before level 3 and not just and only level 2.
I am afraid that is a joomla insufficiency but as far as I am not a coder my only hope is YOU :-[Ninja Lead ModeratorNinja Lead

January 15, 2014 at 10:28 am #518548:(( I see too… Thanks at all!
I cannot do more than redesign that invisible 😮 +/- toggle.
OFF: Silly thing but K2 does it, otherwise I do not want to append K2 to Joomla. It is still bad enough by its own… just wonder why coming new versions of joomla but problems remains unsolved since 1.0 -
