March 27, 2008 at 2:31 am #126989Please bare with me, although I have been a basic user and implementer of joomla for a little under a year I am still far from grasping the engineering of these templates. This Avian template blows me away. But let me start at the beginning of my first issue.
I use Azrul’s MY BLOG component. I want it to be shown on the FRONT PAGE. On my last site I just chose the myblog component as HOME and assigned it 1 on the main menu. If I do that HERE on Avian I lose the template look and menus along the side.
How can I understand this template better?
AT THE MINIMUM, I would like the MYBLOG component to show up in the B module area (shown in screenshot below) where the EXAMPLE SECTION/CATEGORY content is displayed. Atleast then it would be on the front page and I could still use this layout.
You can see HERE ON MY WEBSITE the link in the menu that says MY BLOG. I need to integrate that into the front page.

March 27, 2008 at 10:30 pm #243377That’s where it SHOULD go. Can you show me a screenshot if it doesn’t?

NO, I’m doing something wrong and don’t understand enough to know where to troubleshoot.
Here is what it looks like when I make the MY BLOG component #1 in main menu and DEFAULT for my home front page:
Here is what it looks like when its set up in its default manner, MY BLOG is up there as a LINK but thats about it:
Please feel free to explain things SIMPLY because I can talk high tech about some things but may not know one simple piece of knowledge and get completely LOST and CONFUSED in the middle.
Thanks for helping me.

March 28, 2008 at 4:38 am #243427OK, I spent most of the day beating myself up but I think I did get this to do what I want.
I think I just about have WON this. If you look at my demo site HERE.
You will see I have the MYBLOG component from AZRUL working where I want. If you look at the top right you will also see a link that says FAMILY BLOG that also points to this same MY BLOG Azrul component.
My issue is now that its on front page, if someone reads a blog entry and then click the READ MORE link it will show them the rest of the blog article, BUT ALSO show them the top picture slider too. I DO NOT WANT THIS.
Take a look at what the FAMILY BLOG link is like on the top right. That page displays the articles as I wish, with NO PICTURE SLIDER.
I think I may need to hack a line of code inside of the MY BLOG COMPONENT to hardcodre it to go to the FAMILY BLOG brings up so that it looks the way I want.
Unless there is another best practice, or better solution. What do you t hink?

March 28, 2008 at 11:05 am #243452Hi itgl72
Normally this can be fixed by setting USER5 module to display on HOME menu only, however your blog components seem to have bugs with item id of the blog entry (when you go to full view of a blog entry, the navigation still highligh at Homepage). Please contact with My Blog developer to get this solved.

March 31, 2008 at 3:32 am #243697Hung, I did receive the below message from my-blog developer. All is working as should. What I want to do is more so, maybe limitation is not the best word, but a limitation in joomla. Here is their response:
<blockquote>Hi George,
It is NOT a bug and comment your template club is wrong. It actually behaves exactly as it should be. To understand why this happen, you need to really understand how Joomla “Itemid” works.
You see, the Itemid , determine where and what modules will be shown. Since you have set MyBlog to be the front-page item, all modules that are set to be shown on the front page will also be show in the full blog view. Why?, because in full blog view, the Itemid is exactly the same as the front-page item, hence all modules that are set to published in fornt-page will also appear in full-blog view.
I can actually show you that you can have the same effect with normal Joomla content and this Itemid issue is not unique to MyBlog. It has the same issue with virtually all components.
So, how do you go around this? I am afraid, you need to set My-Blog to show on a different menu item, not the home item menu. Remember, this is not MyBlog limitation, this is just the way Joomla works and it applies to all components. I can demonstarte this with other component if you need prove.
