How can I add a second module to “top” and have them side by side?

Can you post an image to show exactly where you want this module? Do you want it in top-panel where you have a module called top?

If so then open you default layout from the layouts tab in the template manager and find the following line

    <block name="top-panel" type="modules" style="raw" main-inner="1">top</block>

    and change to

    <block name="top-panel" type="spotlight" style="raw" main-inner="1">top,top1</block>

That would give you 2 equal sized modules, one called top and one called top1

The size and styling of which you could still designate via CSS, correct?
