(The title should read “Jathumbnail crashes my site”, but I can’t edit the title.
Tursout JaSlideshow not is a fault, it just used JaThumbnail – and JAthumbnail is the sinner. )

I’m a bit fustrated right now!

I’ve just written a small article that I would like to have shown on my front-page.

The code for the article is as follows:

    <p><img style=”margin: 5px; float: right;” alt=”standerstrygning” src=”images/stories/feature/slideshow/standerstrygning.jpg” height=”300″ width=”660″ />Lørdag den 30 oktober <strong>kl 13.30</strong> tager Ægir standeren ned for sommersæsonen 2010.</p>
<p>Inden da har vi været på fjorden en sidste gang kl. 11</p>
<p>Når standeren er taget ned er der varm suppe på 1. salen hvor også en række medlemmer skal præmieres for en flot indsats i løbet af 2010.</p>

    Not a very complex article…

When it is public my site crash and this is the only message shown:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 41943040 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 2516 bytes) in /mysite/plugins/content/plg_jathumbnail.php on line 295

So somehow JAslideshow makes JAthumbnail crash my site.

The site returns back to normal when I:
    – Unpublish the article
    – or disable the Ja Slideshow module.
    – replace the picture

The picture in the article can be seen here: http://www.roklubben-aegir.dk/images/stories/feature/slideshow/standerstrygning.jpg (52 kb)

I have no idea what is going on. This small jpg-image makes my whole site crash because JAthumbnail screws up.
If the picture in somehow was extreme I could understand, but it’s a simple jpg edited in Photoshop.

What in heaven’s name is going on?

What is wrong with the picture?

    Best regards

    Peter

Try to increase memory_session limit in php.ini file::

Unfortunately I can not assign more than the 40M(?) already assigned to my site (Value: memory_limit). It is done via my hosts controlpanel and here the max is 40. Making a larger value in the .htaccess-file seems to make no difference.

It could be the size of the original images that is causing the problem. If you are using large images and the system is trying to resize them this can really eat memory. Try reducing the original images before uploading them to the lowest size and quality you can get away with.

The uploaded picture is the one linked to above: http://www.roklubben-aegir.dk/images/stories/feature/slideshow/standerstrygning.jpg (52 kb)
That’s what puzzles me. It not big nor complex It is a perfect fit for the slideshow-displsy (it fits in with and height)

Another strange thing. If I use the {jathumbnail off} option in the article the error it self dissapears but now my (front)page is all blank…

    Best regards

It does look like a server side issue. If you use akeeba – http://www.akeebabackup.com/ to take a backup of your entire site then run it on your PC using WAMP – http://wampserver.net does it run without error?

Okay, I guess I owe you all an apology. 🙂

I’ve found the sinner: It is sh404sef which I installed last week.

I did not connect the errors to sh404sef because other add-ons were mentioned on the screen. But turning off sh404sef maked the page run smooth again.

I’ll take my fustration to the sh404sef-forum. 😀

    Cheers

Thanks for the update and please keep us informed of the outcome. As websites become more complex it becomes harder to locate conflicts such as this so all feedback is welcome.
