My site keeps going down and finally i asked my web host what is going on and they said my site has been hacked because I have a problem in y index.php.

Personally i dont’ know what to think because my site is barely up and not worth the time to hack. But how do I prevent this? Is there a possible other reason for this? I know it has to do with my index php because i replaced it and my site went up right away.

Be very careful, 9/10 times its not just the index file that has been injected with the code string/hack.

To prevent it happening again in the future, Always update to the latest verstion on Joomla, Avoid installing modules & plugin’s that could open your site to possible hijacking.

If you didn’t have much on the website I suggest a full reinstall of Joomla.

I have been building it for awhile, is there anyway to scan my website and find the vulnerable spots?

I have taken my website offline, changed the index.php, and my passwords

    Hi satyrical,

I am sorry to hear of the unexpected issue.

In fact, we have made no intervention into Joomla! core eg the index.php file in the J! root dir while developing all of JoomlArt products. So if the file was changed, it could be orginated from one of the following:

    – someone has had your hosting account information and hacked the site
    – your server or one of the integrated components of your site has been infected with a malware program.

Under this case, I recommend you to replace your site by a new fresh installation and check the issue again. You also need to change your password regularly to better monitor the security.

    Good luck!

Seems strange doesn’t it to hack a new and underdeveloped site? I use lunarpages as my preferred hosting company and they often send out email alerts when I have some major goof up and don’t set permissions etc to the best security preventatives.

Maybe changing to a host that seems to care and be on top of these issues is the ultimate preventative? I’d change your default ftp account details at the hosting panel regularly as well

    Hope you overcome this horror
    Cheers Shannon
