September 9, 2008 at 1:40 pm #133145First of all let me tell you I love JA Corona, I’ve been using it for the past 4 months or so, and I don’t get tired of it, it’s an awesome piece of work.
This is not a rant, as I find JA Corona to be working great, loading at an average speed and kicking ass, but this is something that maybe should be adressed, or at least, taken account, either from joomla, or joomlart
6 days ago, siteground my host, sent me notice to move to a VPS or my account would be suspended in 7 days. They we’re claiming I was taking too many resources
This was a big shock for me, I’ve been using their host for already 4 years without a problem with a small community around an IPB forum (with around 9000 monthly visits), only change was a 90 monthly visits (still in works) joomla install.
After claiming this, they sent me to tue analize tool they use: http://www.websiteoptimization.com/
where I could check the problems they find on my site, that takes resources on shared servers. After analizing myself, I could see that most of the issues, where coming from JA corona. These are results from joomla test drive: (3 warnings, 3 cautions, rest green)
Analysis and Recommendations* TOTAL_HTML – Congratulations, the total number of HTML files on this page (including the main HTML file) is 1 which most browsers can multithread. Minimizing HTTP requests is key for web site optimization.
* TOTAL_OBJECTS – Warning! The total number of objects on this page is 18 – consider reducing this to a more reasonable number. Combine, refine, and optimize your external objects. Replace graphic rollovers with CSS rollovers to speed display and minimize HTTP requests.
* TOTAL_IMAGES – Warning! The total number of images on this page is 12 , consider reducing this to a more reasonable number. Combine, refine, and optimize your graphics. Replace graphic rollovers with CSS rollovers to speed display and minimize HTTP requests.
* TOTAL_CSS – Caution. The total number of external CSS files on this page is 4 , consider reducing this to a more reasonable number. Combine, refine, and optimize your external CSS files. Ideally you should have one (or even embed CSS for high-traffic pages) on your pages.
* TOTAL_SIZE – Caution. The total size of this page is 35492 bytes, which will load in over 8 seconds on a 56Kbps modem – or 10.67 seconds. Consider reducing total page size to less than 30K to achieve sub eight second response times on 56K connections. Be sure to provide feedback for pages over 30K by layering your design to display useful content within the first two seconds. Consider optimizing your site with Speed Up Your Site or contacting us about our optimization services.
* TOTAL_SCRIPT – Congratulations, the total number of external script files on this page is 1 . External scripts are less reliably cached than CSS files so consider combining scripts into one, or even embedding them into high-traffic pages.
* HTML_SIZE – Congratulations, the total size of this HTML file is 9913 bytes, which less than 20K. Assuming that you specify the HEIGHT and WIDTH of your images, this size allows your page to display content in well under 8 seconds, the average time users are willing to wait for a page to display without feedback.
* IMAGES_SIZE – Congratulations, the total size of all your images is 5966 bytes, which is less than 15K. Ideally each image should be less than 1160 bytes, to easily fit into one TCP-IP packet.
* SCRIPT_SIZE – Caution. The total size of your external scripts is 4225 bytes, which is above 4080 bytes and less than 8K. Consider optimizing your scripts and eliminating features to reduce this to a more reasonable size.
* CSS_SIZE – Warning! The total size of your external CSS is 15388 bytes, which is over 8K. Consider optimizing your CSS for size by eliminating whitespace, using shorthand notation, and combining multiple CSS files where appropriate.
* MULTIM_SIZE – Congratulations, the total size of all your external multimedia files is 0 bytes, which is less than 4K.This is same analisis service (again, the one siteground claims they use), for ja corona demo site:
Analysis and Recommendations* TOTAL_HTML – Congratulations, the total number of HTML files on this page (including the main HTML file) is 3 which most browsers can multithread. Minimizing HTTP requests is key for web site optimization.
* TOTAL_OBJECTS – Warning! The total number of objects on this page is 128 – consider reducing this to a more reasonable number. Combine, refine, and optimize your external objects. Replace graphic rollovers with CSS rollovers to speed display and minimize HTTP requests.
* TOTAL_IMAGES – Warning! The total number of images on this page is 111 , consider reducing this to a more reasonable number. Combine, refine, and optimize your graphics. Replace graphic rollovers with CSS rollovers to speed display and minimize HTTP requests.
* TOTAL_CSS – Warning! The total number of external CSS files on this page is 8 , consider reducing this to one or two external files. Combine, refine, and optimize your external CSS files. Ideally you should have one (or even embed CSS for high-traffic pages) on your pages.
* TOTAL_SIZE – Warning! The total size of this page is 490201 bytes, which will load in 123.30 seconds on a 56Kbps modem. Consider reducing total page size to less than 30K to achieve sub eight second response times on 56K connections. Pages over 100K exceed most attention thresholds at 56Kbps, even with feedback. Consider contacting us about our optimization services.
* TOTAL_SCRIPT – Caution. The total number of external script files on this page is 6 , consider reducing this to one or two. Combine, refine, and optimize your external script files. Ideally you should have one (or even embed scripts for high-traffic pages) on your pages.
* HTML_SIZE – Caution. The total size of this HTML file is 45719 bytes, which is above 20K but below 100K. With a 10K ad and a logo this means that your page will load in over 8.6 seconds. Consider optimizing your HTML and eliminating unnecessary features. To give your users feedback, consider layering your page or using positioning to display useful content within the first two seconds.
* IMAGES_SIZE – Warning! The total size of your images is 316861 bytes, which is over 30K. Consider optimizing your images for size, combining them, and replacing graphic rollovers with CSS.
* SCRIPT_SIZE – Warning! The total size of external your scripts is 93002 bytes, which is over 8K. Consider optimizing your scripts for size, combining them, and using compression where appropriate for any scripts placed in the HEAD of your documents.
* CSS_SIZE – Warning! The total size of your external CSS is 34619 bytes, which is over 8K. Consider optimizing your CSS for size by eliminating whitespace, using shorthand notation, and combining multiple CSS files where appropriate.
* MULTIM_SIZE – Congratulations, the total size of all your external multimedia files is 0 bytes, which is less than 4K.Now, as you see I don’t blame on JA Corona, I had more plugins istalled, now I will put my site results:
* TOTAL_HTML – Congratulations, the total number of HTML files on this page (including the main HTML file) is 1 which most browsers can multithread. Minimizing HTTP requests is key for web site optimization.
* TOTAL_OBJECTS – Warning! The total number of objects on this page is 217 – consider reducing this to a more reasonable number. Combine, refine, and optimize your external objects. Replace graphic rollovers with CSS rollovers to speed display and minimize HTTP requests.

* CSS_SIZE – Warning! The total size of your external CSS is 86287 bytes, which is over 8K. Consider optimizing your CSS for size by eliminating whitespace, using shorthand notation, and combining multiple CSS files where appropriate.
* MULTIM_SIZE – Congratulations, the total size of all your external multimedia files is 0 bytes, which is less than 4K.As you can see, my site has nearly twice in every aspect than joomla test site, but mine is a working site, using some important joomla plugins, like jreviews, jw frontpage slideshow or jomcomment
Not too sure, why I wrote this, maybe to show how noob webmaster I am :-[
Ow, my CPanel numbers:
D: 2430.01/750000 MB
Bandwith: 259.46/7500000 MB
emails: 4,a lthought it’s been done in google apps
ftp and databases: 3 each, these are additionals? because cpanel says I can have unlimited. Is hard to believe that with these numbers from awstats from inside Cpanel (see below) I can be taking that many resources as too need a SVN. When the only different thing between last year and now is a joomla install, that never had more than 90 visits a month…
