I’ve just installed the quick install of zinc for 1.0 and it all works fine except that the site takes too long to load. It loads about 90% on the progress bar and then takes a while to finish loading and display the page. Any ideas why and how to fix this? I have enabled cache, I have disabled a lot of the modules to see if any are slowing it but no success.

ShannonNFebruary 27, 2009 at 9:56 am #293772Hi Shannon, thanks for the reply, sorry I forgot to include the link which is http://www.hypamedia.com
This morning I went into admin, changed the template to the standard joomla one and it loaded normally (quickly) as soon as I went back to the zinc template it was slow loading so the issue is almost certainly something to do with the template. ThanksShannonN FriendShannonN

February 28, 2009 at 1:33 pm #293915Sorry again, but in the reality, it loads slow. The site took around 4 to 5 seconds at first load. The next step on services was kind of quicker but the content was coming up step by step. When opening the site again the loading time is usually quicker, now it loaded faster, same as when navigating inside the site.
This is present with Joomla, if 1.0 or 1.5, whenever your template is large, a lot of graphics, large banners and stuff like JA ZinC has, (also present when not using Joomla) but also when you have some extensions running that are quite complex and your server or hosting space is slow, like Joomla has to offer. Only way around is either not to await too much when using a heavy template like JA ZinC when you only have normal hosting stuff or to change the hosting environment. The larger the template including graphics is, the slower it will load unless you compensate this with a faster server.
I would not give too much on online analysis as they run under different environments.

February 28, 2009 at 1:45 pm #293917Hi, I don’t think using 1.5 would make the site go any faster maybe, but in my opinion 1.5 is better, and it is the future. After a while there will be no more 1.0, so if you are starting a new site, why not do it with 1.5 right away. It will save you from having to migrate later.
I realize you are just starting with the site. I just thought that:
Please explore the site, we hope you enjoy our work….. would be better like

March 1, 2009 at 4:25 pm #294066thanks for the replies, I went for 1.0 purely because I have other sites running on 1.0 and with some modifications 1.0 seems to be better for SEO, I tried one site with 1.5 but found that I had less flexibility.
With regard to zinc, I don’t know what to do, it’s a great looking template but if it’s slow loading there’s no point having it as people will probably hit the back button it’s taking too long to load. Moving hosting isn’t really an option at the moment so is there anything else I can do to improve the load speed?
March 1, 2009 at 5:03 pm #294068Bit of an update. I have disabled every module, reduced the size of the body-bg.jpg (graffiti background) from around 500k to around 126k by reducing the quality in photoshop. Even after all these changes it is still just as slow loading. I have tried on Safari, IE and Firefox and it’s the same with all of them.
This would imply that maybe there is some kind of problem in the code for this template? Is anyone else running zinc, maybe I could try accessing somebody elses working site and see if it loads any quicker than mine.

Looking at the performance evaluator online that some think is a waste of time there are a lot of calls to the server , there are a lot of js and css files could be you also have a dog of a server/host?
get your host to see if there is any thing that they can do to help at their level?
