Hi. A couple of days ago I posted the following to this forum because the contact us said I needed to. Here is the original post …
I am new to Joomla and have downloaded the Teline template. It is installed at …
The problem I have is that when you click on an item of content, obviously the page changes, but the work “back” misaligns the next item of content, and then this obscures the menu. To see the effect, look here…
http://e-manse.net/derby/index.php?o…d=1&Ite mid=2
The Joomla installation is 1.0.13
Any ideas please.
Many Thanks
AlistairTo date I have had one reply which offered some help, and I tried the suggestion. Unfortunately this hasn’t worked. As a newcomer I am feeling somewhat dischuffed and frustrated, partly at my lack of ability with this sort of thing, but also at the lack of help offered. :((
Where do I go from here please. I have tried to install the quickstart Teline, but I am finding this inaccessible due to a lack of instructions. I have seen some info in the forums, but can’t really make any sense of it. It appears I need to do a manual installation, though my provider seems to recommend installation by fantastico. When I try the manual installation I don’t see anything like the forum posts suggest. I have tried to follow the video clips Shannon suggested for newbies like myself, but find that my installation by cpanel doesn’t work for me. When I have expanded the Joomla files in the folder in my webspace, and then navigate using my browser to the site/folder, I don’t get a pre-installation check.
Please can someone help!!! – I am getting incredibly frustrated, and am on the verge of jacking it all in.
Many thanks

January 31, 2008 at 3:15 am #237739Hello,
I think from the appearance of your JA Teline, you are doing the two-step process:
- Install Joomla
- Upload JA Teline
You might have given up on the JA Teline QuickStart Kit too fast — that is a life saver for beginners, and time saver even for veterans. That is why everyone here is clamoring for a “QuickStart” kit whatever template they are using.
Did you view the QuickStart Video Tutorial provided in a link by one of the responders to the Sharon thread? The link leads you a MICCAS site that has one QuickStart Video Tutorial. It is not for JA Teline, but the general procedure is the same. There are unique issues that are encountered for each template. I posted my own experience in the Shannon thread.
The video tutorial from the MICCAS site is quite good actually. The one provided initially by MICCAS to me even has someone narrating the procedure, which I found more effective because it was guiding me to the key steps as shown in the demo images.
I suggest strongly to view the video several times. Take notes, i.e., write your own procedure as you understand the tutorial. To be more effective, I would suggest that you have your JA Teline ready for the installation.
At least that is how I learn.
If you are not quite familiar with Joomla or program scripting, I suggest strongly that you install the JA Teline QuickStart Kit, again and perform what is referred to as the “Easy Install” procedure. Maybe follow my approach.
I shared in several posts here last August 2007, about the the procedures I used, as well as the bugs and problems I encountered (see note below).
Read my earlier posts (they are too many to repeat here). After I took all the precautions and following this outline of the installation:
- Start with JA Teline QuickStart Kit
- Setup your database, including username and password
- Remove the .htaccess in the root directory
- Correct the file name errors, in the subdirectories of the com_menus directory (see my post in bugs)
- Follow the browser-based Joomla “Easy Install“
- mysite.com — name of your site
- joomla — name of your joomla directory
This means nothing but following exactly as directed once you start:
http://mysite.com/joomla/installation/
where
(note that this directory will not be present if you placed the JA Teline Quickstart files and directories directly in the “root” directory
When following the “Easy Install” procedure be sure to follow exactly as directed, including:
- changing the globals.php file, as directed
- deleting the “installation” directory, after the installation is successful
- convert the htaccess.txt => .htaccess
note the dot before the h (just in case you have never done this before
everything worked fine.
Once I followed the above — starting with the JA Teline QuickStart Kit — I can finish the Easy Install process itself in less than 5 minutes. Of course, the grunt work has just started after the Easy Install.
There is enough information now already in this Forum to be able to install the JA Teline QuickStart Kit properly. Now, if you just have one site to prepare, and all you want is a working site, maybe it is more cost effective to hire one of the experts here. Menalto, for example.

I was very frustrated like you, when I started. It took me several days stewing because no one was responding to the problems I encountered. I got all sorts of suggestions that were not pertinent to the “error” messages I got. Then many got mad at me because I was not following what they are telling me — especially when I told them: I know that already that is not the problem I am encountering. The tutorial link provided by MICCAS, though not directly the solution because it was for a different template led me to solution. I followed the tutorial using the specific template in the tutorial and it worked. That was the breakthrough.
To find out what why it worked with the JA Parity (or something) QuickStart Kit, I compared the files and directories of the former kit with that of the JA Teline Quickstart kit. That was how I found what caused the problems I encountered. Quite simple — the “,htaccess” found in JA Teline. When I removed that, the installation went smoothly.
Then, when I did some operations, I encountered error messages.
It led me to my own procedure outlined above (see my very long posts for more details when I started).
It is possible that your problems may be different, but if you become patient, you will be able to get more experience, enough to understand what is causing the errors.
