I’ve got a live site that was doing great until mysteriously our JA Slideshow Lite module simply vanished!

This *HAS* happened before, but @ninja Lead helped me get it working again. That time it was due to a change in the ReCaptcha API, but this time it might be due to a conflict with a module called Responsive Grid for Articles from Minitek.gr. I’ve asked them to look into it also, but ANY help you can provide would be VERY welcome, because this module not showing is really messing up the site.

I tried uninstalling the Responsive Grid module, but it didn’t seem to help. I just can’t get the slideshow back. And it’s probably the most visible module on the homepage. It’s absence is surely getting noticed, and it’s making me crazy.

    I need your help STAT!

Thank you in advance for a quick solution. I’ve got Minitek looking for a solution too — so hopefully you can work together and find the problem super-quick. I really need help ASAP on this.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.

    Hi Matt,

The Joomla Super User credentials you provided in the “Access Information provided for JA Staff (JA Forum Feature)” web-form don’t work and consequently I was not able to login at your backend. Please feel free to PM it to me.

    Cheers,

    Alex

In my urgent call for help, apparently more than one of you responded. I’m getting a “failed password” response from more than one of you, which also has me a little nervous. Don’t want “too many cooks” trying to fix the same problem.

Please, one of you claim responsibility for helping, and use the password initially sent via the forum form. It has been reset to that password. Or put your heads together and fix it together — just please don’t make a mess. I remind you, this is a live site. Thanks so much for your help! It is greatly appreciated.

Got a PM from @chavan that suggests that the problem might be an old jquery include… here’s his PM to me (so we’re all on the same page):

the issue might be you have this jquery old version included, this need to be removed

    <script src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.0.3/jquery.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

hope this might fix the issue.

I’ve tried updating that include to jquery 2.1.1 and the jqueryui to 1.10.4 — but it doesn’t seem to have helped at all. Any other thoughts?

Well, I’ve just had enough of the stress trying to get this figured out. I’m having my hosting provider restore the site from backup. I won’t lose any data this way, and hopefully all will be resolved.

I thank you gentlemen again for your attempt to help me, even on a weekend. You’ve scored major points for Joomlart in my book. Kudos and thank you.

    Hi Matt,

You be the boss and ol’ good backup is your uncle! 🙂

If in the mean time you still would like to pursue the current issue with JA Slideshow Lite, please backup your site with Akeeba Backup and PM me once done to arrange the backup archive transfer. This will safe us some time and effort while investigating your JA Slideshow Lite locally.

    Cheers,

    Alex

Well I just got off the phone with my hosting provider, who is normally spot-on with their service; but this time they’ve totally let me down. The backups they had were no good, resulting in just a white screen when they restored them. What garbage!

So I’ve had them put my site back the way it was — broken modules and all — because at least that is better than nothing.

And I suppose this means I still need some help.

So, @alexsmirnov, I’ll reset your SuperAdmin access, so you can have a poke around. IF it comes to setting up a local version on your servers (something I’m not keen on doing), then I guess we can pursue that later — but I’m hoping you’ll be able to spot my problem with far less hassle.

I appreciate your help, especially on a weekend like this. Please confirm that you were able to log in this time via PM. I’ll be watching for it.

    Hi Matt,

1 Please create a new database named “debug”

2 Create a new folder by the name “debug”

3 Clone your current website into this new /debug/ folder/”debug” database

Once done, please let me know in this thread.

    Regards,

    Alex

    Hi Matt,

After troubleshooting your site on my local Linux sandbox I have a strong feeling that the reason our JA Slideshow Lite doesn’t get going on your system lies in the following:

1 You Joomla version 3.3.1, with which JA Mitius template is not compatible yet

2 One of the 3-rd party components, that you install additionally to the 3-rd party components coming with JA Mitius Quick Start pack out of the box

I suggest you rollback to JA Mitius Quick Start with demo data, import into this install your current brewliving.com web-site database and then start installing required components one by one, testing your web-site after every install.

Obviously, you may want to do this job in a new sub-folder /brewliving02/ and new database “brewliving02” first and then, once everything is OK, replace your current web-site with this new one, for example, via Akeeba Backup created archive.

    Hope this helps,

    Regards,

    Alex

Unfortunately, I’ve got a LOT of 3rd Party modules — all of which had worked with the site until just recently.

Is there any easier way to patch the site back to the previous version, rather than rebuilding the site from scratch?

If so, that would be VASTLY easier — as I’ve already got users on the site that I don’t want to disenfranchise.

    Matt

PS – I promise to build out a dev version of the site and test all upgrades there from now on. I’ve learned my lesson (one I already knew, but apparently had a serious lapse of judgement on). Your continued help with this is greatly appreciated.

OR… is there any chance that the JA Slideshow Lite module will get upgraded for 3.3.1 soon? Everything else is working with the latest version of Joomla, as far as I can tell.

That would fix MY problem AND keep Joomlart on the cutting edge, where it belongs. 🙂 Two birds, you know?

Once you install our JA Mitius Quick Start for Joomla 3.x and replace it’s database with the one from your current brewliving.com web-site, all you’ll have to do will be to install one by one with testing after each install the following 8 components:

Created under brewliving.com by these and others components users and content as well as their configuration settings will already be in your new development system, – all of it will be residing in your development site’s database, once you imported into it database of your main site.

So, basically, we are talking about feeding your new JA Mitius Quick Start development site’s file system one by one those 8 components and see which one is our culprit, which one causes your JA Slideshow Lite to vanish.

You may end up with installing all 8 of them and “JA Slideshow Lite” never disappearing which will prove that the problem lies not with the components but with Joomla’s latest version 3.3.1, with which our JA Mitius template is not yet compatible.

    Regards,

    Alex

I have set up a fresh quickstart of Mitius, installed each component individually, and sure enough — they all installed just fine, with no effect on the Slideshow Lite module. I think my problem was upgrading to J3.3.1.

With this new knowledge, is there anything I can do? Or must I rebuild my entire site?

Also, when will JA Mitius and other Joomlart templates get caught up with Joomla? Is there a timeline? I appreciate that it has to be a constant stream of work to go back and keep older templates up-to-date with the ever-advancing changes with Joomla. The developers certainly have my sympathy and understanding, but vulnerabilities become a real issue if Joomla isn’t kept updated (as I’m sure you well know).

Thanks for all your continued advice and help. Any suggestions for next steps? I hear that sometimes you can just re-install an older version of Joomla over the existing one? I may also just look at running a different slideshow module that *is* up-to-date?

I welcome your constructive advice. Thank you.

I don’t find any official instructions on downgrading Joomla, so I assume there is a reason why its developers officially don’t advise it but please feel free to bounce it off them at forum.joomla.org and see what they would say.

I thinks it would be fair to say that you have successfully rebuilt your site already. You just need to transfer it from your developer test sub-folder and database into public_html root folder and its corresponding database. You can easily accomplish it with Akeeba Backup extension.

If you have not done it before, you may understandably feel some butterflies in your stomach. To build up your confidence you may want to play with following tasks:

1 Create via “Akeeba Backup” extension full backup copy of your working now on Joomla 3.2.4 JA Mitius development web-site (you may want to exclude some folders from getting into this backup archive to make it more compact and save yourself some download/upload time. If you purchase and install “Akeeba Backup Professional”, you will be able to do so) and download it somewhere on your hard drive

    2 Create test sub-folders /brewliving03/, /brewliving04/, /brewliving05/, /brewliving06/ and /brewliving07/

    3 Create test databases “brewliving03”, “brewliving04”, “brewliving05”, “brewliving06” and “brewliving07”

4 Download latest “Akeeba Backup Kickstart” from https://www.akeebabackup.com/products/akeeba-kickstart.html and extract it somewhere on your hard drive

5 Upload your created in Step 1 via “Akeeba Backup” web-stie backup archive into your test sub-folders /brewliving03/, /brewliving04/, /brewliving05/, /brewliving06/ and /brewliving07/

6 Find kickstart.php on your hard drive in a folder where you extracted “Akeeba Backup Kickstart”, downloaded and extracted according to Step 4 and upload it onto your test sub-folders /brewliving03/, /brewliving04/, /brewliving05/, /brewliving06/ and /brewliving07/

7 Point your browser to brewliving.com/brewliving03/kickstart.php, hit “Enter”, click on the “Click here or press ESC to close the message” web-link when you see the “Things that you should know about Akeeba Kickstart” message box, like the one on the screenshot at https://www.akeebabackup.com/documentation/akeeba-kickstart-documentation/kickstart-interface.html#initial-dialogue and install your backup copy into /brewliving03/ sub-folder and “brewliving03” database following instructions

    8 Repeat Step 7 for /brewliving04/, /brewliving05/, /brewliving06/ and /brewliving07/ sub-folders and their corresponding “brewliving04”, “brewliving05”, “brewliving06” and “brewliving07” databases

10 Once happy with how tesing your new web-sites pans out, delete folders and files of your main web-site in public_html and its tables from your main web-site database

11 Repeat Steps 5 to 7 only this time uploading your created via “Akeeba Backup” backup archive and kickstart.php onto public_html root folder, pointing your browser to brewliving.com/kickstart.php and using during installation your main database.

    There you have it.

    Regards,

    Alex
