Hi,
If you turn on those settings, it will help the component work faster. You should decide two choose between file quality and component performance.

Hi,
Regarding cache lifetime how is it managed? Is it in seconds, days? Besides, do you recommend any setting to boost performance?
I do not usually change files, mainly images.

Amazon S3 or any kind of CDN should store only files that you never change.
So if you make sure you will never change these file. Just caching it as lifetime 🙂
