    Dear Members,

Its disheartening that we could not reach the minimum votes required to conclude SOTM September. However, I am thankful to you all for having submitted and voted on sites.

In appreciation, I am gifting 500 credits each to the top three voted sites.

    1. http://www.miamitwp.org 8 Votes
    2. http://www.voiceofbolton.com and http://www.thaiwaiian.com/monterey with 5 Votes each.
    3. http://www.schoolyourpool.com and http://www.medicalinterviewsuk.co.uk with 3 votes each.

Users are thatcomputerdude, anisjolly, theprofessor, eak099

The SOTM Competition henceforth is suspended until further announcement.

Indeed it is. However, if you don’t come to forum, which is probably the majority of JA customer base.. You would not know about the contest to vote & keep it alive. Was nice while it lasted though I enjoyed looking at some of the design changes people made to the templates.

Must be a hard decision to make, may be we can request a restart after some time. The voting turnout has been quite low in the past few SOTM and increase in prizes and benefits did not have major positive result.

You would probably had to of actively went after votes — Broadcast forum message when 200+ members were online. I find it hard to believe that with the additional upgraded prizes that people would of had “less” interest. I think it’s more people did not know. Moot point now though 😉

Why not put a little more promotional effort into it before you just quit?

Not all members visit the forums to even know about this competition to participate, why not mention it on the front page? Why not send out a message about it? Why not get more people involved that are willing to put in some time to make this more successful?

I hate to see such a good idea be thrown to the side, very disappointing from the winner.

I think you will find that a lot of the team put an awful lot of effort into this month….you can not force people to take part or vote…in fact a couple of the sites never even took the time to vote for their own sites!

I have no doubt some of the Moderators took time to promote the competition, along with a few members.

My comments are towards how the site promoted this competition and lack of.

The only way you’d know about this is if you visit the forums and pay attention to probably 10-12 signatures or visit the SOTM forum.

There is a lot more that can be done with regards to promotion and that’s what I was addressing. The Mods and a few members went above and beyond to promote this competition.

As a matter of fact, I think this is such a good idea that I’m going to start a site that holds Monthly Joomla Competitions that gives away Prizes – Cash, Template Club Memberships, Extension Memberships from Clubs and Popular Extension Developers.

This way we can incorporate all Joomla Template Clubs, Extension Clubs/Developers and Joomla site developers.

I was in one of the contests once and the only reason I found out was because I happened to check the SOTM thread. If I would of not checked I would of had no idea I was even nominated. So it’s easily plausible that some people have no idea that they are even in a SOTM competition.

I tend to agree with computerdude — If there is no monthly newsletter, a monthly Private message, or a block announcement (not sure if this forum software has that capability) I don’t think would ever get enough votes. If I did not check on the SOTM and was just a “visitor” to the forum I would never know about the competition because I would not see any mention of it.
As most users do I would go to the forum I was interested in or do a search for my issue and be gone.

BTW I’m not saying there was no effort put into it this month. The bottom line is if majority of people don’t know about the contest your numbers of voters is not going to go up no matter how much you sweeten the rewards or “bump” the thread. You’re right though you can’t “make” people vote; which is why it end up a numbers game. It’s a moot point now. However I would just keep in mind if another “contest” idea comes up it should be brought to the table that a monthly newsletter, announcement through forum system, or a few forum “shouts ” at peak times should be instituted or you will run into the same problem.

P.S. When I say forum shout some forums have the ability to have a forced message pop up so all users on forum see it. I’ve never used VB so I don’t know if it has this function.

Shame really, I enjoyed seeing what other people had done with the templates. Still, I can fully understand the frustration of setting up the nominations thread, setting up the poll and then less than 1% of the 6,482 ‘active forum members’ actually take the time to vote.
