Hi everybody …
my second spam attact in a week. :((
Fortunatly … user access is restricted by administrator function, so they register but they can’t post.
My questions are :
– what can i do to avoid spam attack? do you have any experience?
– How can i disable registering without disable true user access ? i mean that i don’t need more redactor for my site. We are only 4 or 5 to post article. their account are created, i only want to avoid people to submit registering.
than you for help

August 19, 2008 at 11:25 am #266034First, tell us what version of Joomla (man.. I’m tired of asking this each time), the link to your site and second, maybe you heard about captcha.
1. Use Security Images component. Get it from here : LINK
2. You can disable user registration in Joomla but this is not a good point.
Try to modify your User Menu, Sumbit new content or whatever submission you have and set another permision, so the new users may not to access it or see it.
If I remember well, there is also an option to choose what rank gets a new user. Registered, Author, Publisher, etc. Look for it.If you don’t know how to, report back and we’ll teach you.

August 19, 2008 at 12:35 pm #266036Using Captcha in the registration form might help you.
August 19, 2008 at 1:08 pm #266044Hi! thanks for reply …
Which are the files to modify login menu (top right next to time and date) ?
Captcha, i was working on it. but at this time i don’t know which one to use. Robot can pass it anyway. So it must be good …
Can i see a demo of yours Cristian? Sounds to be difficult to,install … there is a lot of file attached.
Users permission’s on my site are very low … the minimum. That’s ok with that. I do not allow comment on articles. But … spamers can register with bots .. that’s the problem.
What are the file relative to registering ??

August 19, 2008 at 1:22 pm #266045My demo is here : http://www.novapress.ro
I am using Security Images and I never had problems with bots.
You can see it at Registering and Contact Form. You can also use it at login.I don’t know if hacking files by yourself is a good ideea so don’t try to mess with the files.
If you wanna implement this component, read the documentation, it’s not hard at all and they proove the files needed for the last version of J1.5.6.
If you want to search for another captcha solution here is a place to start : LINK -
