January 3, 2011 at 1:24 pm #158224We are attempting to utilize this template for a busy site and we have a beta site that we can’t put live due to very slow load times. http://www.missioneyes,net/social
What would be the best way in which to troubleshoot this. I have tested it with: http://analyze.websiteoptimization.com/wso
As I have a demo builder site also for this template, it seems that some of the slowdown could be my server or unused modules or something else but I don’t know how to speed this up.
What would be a good way to proceed?
Thanks in advance!

January 5, 2011 at 8:33 am #370180Hi there,
First thing first. Disable unused plugins / modules / components.
The basics of any speed related issue with any site (irrespective of joomla or other cms), is the number and size of elements loaded.
Its simple logic that a 200KB site will be faster to load than a 500KB site… So lighter the site content / page content the faster the site would be.
You can refer to >> http://www.joomspot.net/how-to-speed-up-optimize-joomlas-performance.html . for some basic steps you can take on your site to speed up.
To start with your mod_fpss and com_fpss are adding more images, including thumbnails, which are not seen on the frontend.
Audit the content of your site, use the Dependencies plugin on firefox to get a clear picture of whats being loaded on your site.

January 5, 2011 at 12:05 pm #370246Excellent article and excellent tips.
I am afraid that we also have a server issue but am having a hard time sleuthing that out. They say everything is fine, but we are waiting 15 seconds after a page change even to see any evidence of a page load, so this seems to imply a server issue to me.
On another site where we are using a joomlart template, we had a major slowdown for several months which was very frustrating. Unbeknowst to us, the server did a filesystem rebuild which resulted in our site turning around into a blazing fast site. We did no optimization at all and we were flying. So this obviously is another huge factor in the whole speed issue. If anyone has ways to monitor this, we’ll appeciate these suggestions.
