    Hi all!

The recent Mark Best Answer feature is a fantastic feature and makes trawling through the forums much easier to find your answers. And the even more helpful JA community just makes this place a bigger joy to be a part of.

I suggest that the option to mark an answer as the best answer should be extended to another group of users (this can be debatable). This is because I have found that a lot of threads that are made and solved or answered are not being marked as best answer by the thread maker!!!

Although this is not a major issue, recognition of a person’s work often goes missed (and the chance for them to gain 15 credits for providing the best answer).

Therefore, I think there should be another group of very active users who should be given the option to mark best answers! Just like a moderator – except all they can do is mark best answer and not actually moderate any content.

Now, some people might see an exploit here and that people will go around marking their own answers as best answer. In this case, after suggesting a best answer, this gets put into a queue for moderation. Another user (whether this be a moderator, admin, developer member or even a licensed member!) will then be able to decide whether this is indeed a best answer and then submit it or reject it.

I have no idea if this is possible to do in vBulletin – but combining this feature with the new Ajax feature to change the thread status (from question, to solved to answered etc.) would provide an even easier way to look around for answers (and recognition of many member’s support that might of gone a miss or unrewarded!)

Many thanks for your input guys!

That’s a great idea hanifahmed! As you may know, the current “mark best answer” & reset the best answer options are available for thread starters & mod/admin group.

It’s a shame if the thread owner mark their own answer as the best answer (except for the very outstanding one). We may need to make some customization to vbulletin to prevent this.

Making a moderation queue for best answer forum will not be flexible, because sometime the moderator can not verify if it is a best solution/answer for the thread starter.

We are slowly trawling through the forum to mark threads which are solved and Mark Best Answer for the various solved/answered thread but it takes a lot of effort cause of the amount of threads and forums to mark.

Also, sometimes, people might just disappear after finding the answer without any reply or thanks to indicate that his problem is solved and this proves to be a problem as we do not know if the answer was correct.

I have seen overuse of the “Thank You” as well as posts marked “Answered” and “Solved” even if there was no resolution. In a few instances, I have seen also a few that were “Mark Best Answer” even if the answer did not fully address the question.

I shoulld know, I have been recipients of some of them, or some of my posts were marked “Answer” simply because there were some responses. It evens out because there were also responses where I helped solve the thread, but did not get the “Mark Best Answer:”

Personally, I don’t comment when people overuse the :Thank You”, or the reverse — not even have the decency to say thanks.

I am more concerned that some Moderators or Staff are strolling around marking threads prematurely as “Answered”, or worse “Solved”, even if they were not resolved. This waste time because sometimes when I visit those that may be similar to my question, I do not find any answer that solved the problem.

Greater peeve. What concerns me more are threads where the question is resolved in private More often, it is one of the staff or a Moderator, requesting by PM for Admin access, Then, sometimes, the person who initiated the thread thanked the other party . Unfortunately, there is no explanation — either from the initiator or the staff or Moderator — how the question (problem) asked was resolved. This again is a great problem because the same question/problem may be asked again and again. It sure could rack lots of “Thanks”, for the same problem over and over, again.

Posts marked Answered >> This prefix suggests that the thread has been replied by JA Official Staff >> signifies that some efforts were taken or atleast additional information was requested.

POst Marked Solved >> Most of the post are marked solved by thread owner themselves, mods mark threads as solved only if there is a solution present and the thread owner has confirmed that it worked.

“Best Answer” >> Its the privilege of the thread owner to mark the best answer, we have recently started marking best answers, but only after through check and confirmation that the solution provided resolved the problem with thread owner confirmation.

There are many instances of thread owner marking wrong answers or even owner marking their own answers as best answers. I myself have corrected over 20 such wrong marked answers or self marked answers.

The concern is truly justified, however, marking a thread as “Answered” by JA Staff is JA Policy. Marking a thread as “solved” is much more into the hands of the thread owners and may be they should be careful to remove the solved tag incase the solution provided has not worked, as happens in some cases that the owner says “yes it worked” but later says “it din work”, in such cases owner should revert the “solved” tag to problem/question tag.

It is also requested to point out “wrongly marked answers” so that the same can be removed.

a draft for fixing prefixes and thread option is already under consideration and hope to see some wise decisions taken in this regard.

I think its much more of thread owner responsibility to put down the solution, if the problem has been solved in person. Sadly most of them get lazy once the problem is solved. Has happened to me also many times, i solved the problem in person but the owner did not put down the solution in the thread, although i do try to put down the solution myself, but it may not be possible all the time.
