I noticed a problem with Barite template for Joomla! 1.0
After installing the quickstart, position of the the syndicate module was missing
(not to mention the “<?php if ( $my->id ) { initEditor(); } ?>” wich causes your editor to not load in the front end.

For a new user this may be confusing and I don’t understand why this fixes are not included in the update.

Regarding the JA News component, you should create one for J1.0 also.
There are a lot of us using this version and we can’t enjoy this nice component.
