    Hi,

I was wondering if someone could give me a hand. I’m trying to get my head around the T3 templating system and am a little stuck. I’ve watched several T3 instruction videos and read the documentation but a few things are still not so clear to me.

I’m trying to create a layout block in which I’d like to publish a slideshow which occupies 8 of the 12 grids with the balance for right column modules. I’ve cloned an existing layout style and then created a new layout block using one of the other block php files as a starting point, but what I’m finding is that because of the classes applied in those other php files the outcome isn’t as expected. Is there a best practice to follow? What layout should I be using as the basis for this type of layout? Does anyone have any advice they could offer? Is it better to use say the spotlight block and amend it? Or is there a better suggestion?

Also, I want my menu to sit in the side bar right position. How do I achieve that? Should I load the navmenu layout block into a module position? It would be great of there was a real world instruction video available which starts with a mockup and then customises the blank template so we can see best practice steps.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

Thank you for your response, but as explained, I have already read the documentation and watched the videos but it isn’t clear to me how to go about certain things. I was really looking for some human to human advice to explain the questions I had above and to advise on best practice when going about certain types of tasks.

The layout I need is to have an always visible right column. It is not clear to me how best to go about that. Separate layout blocks each with 2 positions? But then what happens when screen resolution decreases? What happens to those right module positions? Do they get split in the order when you get down to mobile instead of the right column content staying together?

What seems to be lacking are real work examples which reflect the actual workflow of creating a template….from mockup design to working template. Are there are such instructional videos?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi
you can use my suggestion for how the grid options are used in the Bootstrap 3 and same is used in T3 .
You will find all the position in the tpls/blocks folder and style files in /less and css folder , you can see how they are implemented .
I am sorry but u can not get complete documentation for each step as developing a template has several tasks . If you have good knowledge in the php and css i am sure you can get how it works with help of the given documentation .

It’s not the PHP and CSS I need help with. It’s the broader concept I need help understanding. Your documentation doesn’t cover that. I’ll look for help elsewhere since it seems this isn’t the place to come to to get help.
