I like the new visual for modifying the module position layout. With T3v2, we could easily add more spotlights, more modules, etc by modifying the XML. For example:

Adding two new spotlights was as easy as adding something like:

    <block name="spotlight2" type="spotlight">user1,user2,user3</block>
    <block name="spotlight3" type="spotlight">user4,user5,user6</block>

And we wanted to change the width of the sidebar, we’d specify something like this for a 35% column width:

    <blocks name="middle" colwidth="35">

How do you do these things with the new GUI?

Additionally, how do we remove the “powered by t3 framework” from the footer area? Can this be done in GUI or is there a file to edit for this?

    Thoughts and input are appreciated.

The layout configuration is limited to functions which is easy for a normal user to manage his site such as:

    – Change module position
    – On/off a block (deselect a module position)
    – Change number and width of position in a spotlight

If you want make more customization (a developer), you need alter the files. In this case, you can add module positions, spotlight in layout tpls which is in template tpls folder.

Thanks for the user guide. I will need to examine the details of this further, but this is a step in the right direction. Looking forward to furhter updates.

I’ve played around with the files and the details and while not perfectly clear, there are a number of things I was able to pick up on from the docs and some experimentation.

Creating a copy of a tpls file and a copy of a blocks file under that, calling that blocks file from the middle part of the content, I was able to get the site to behave somewhat predictably. I still have a lot of questions about things like the LESS compilation, the megamenu requiring a click on the home page but only a hover on an interior page to show a drop down item, and how styles relate compared to the t3v2 version – for example, I would choose a single template and then multiple styles within that template in the v2 version where I’m still not sure how to associate styles to templates, etc. I see that there are “themes” within one of the templates and then there are also styles within the template. But at each of these levels, some of the names are same, so it’s hard to tell what’s what.

    Example:

    Templates styles (extensions…template manager): T3v3 Blank – Red, T3v3 Blank – Dark, T3v3 Blank – Home 1, T3v3 Blank – Home 2
Theme (inside the template style): default, red, dark, green, orange
The there is the Template style that is selectable inside the chosen template style (I think these are the same, but I don’t understand why they are listed in both places)
Then there are the assignments, which I understand, but don’t seem to be applying quite like I expect them to…for example, I have selected the same assignments to two menu items, in the same template style, using modules assigned to those menu items, but they don’t wind up in the same page layout I’d expect.

Lots to learn here. I hope there will be some more documentation and maybe some more useful videos on using the framework and not just advertising it.

First, we must understand clearly the 2 concepts: template styles & themes.

    – Template styles are Joomla concept, first introduced in Joomla 2.5. A template style bases on a template, store a variation of the template parameters and can be assigned for some pages. You can get more info about Template styles here: http://docs.joomla.org/Template_style

    – Themes: JA templates provides multiple themes (Eg: color themes) in a template. There’s a template parameter allow to select which tehme is used.

We can see that theme is one of parameter of template, it’s also mean one setting in a template style. You can create a template style, choose a theme for it, and configure other template setting, then assign the style for some pages.

In T3V3, we provide a quick method to switch to other style by select a style in the dropdown box on the top left conner (Standard method: you must close the current style and open another on the style list).

    My confusion/question is this:

In v2 of the framework, you had tabs for Global, Profiles, Layouts, Themes. I would use the profiles as the place to determine the various assignments.

It seems that in v3, the profiles has gone away and they are instead the extensions…template manager: styles…the various styles are chosen there to which layouts can be assigned to menus. So is it right that the Profiles have gone away and are replaced with the template styles? Maybe I was doing it wrong before in v2, but I’ve always used the same t3 blank template as the template and then created a style for the custom site. Then everything stayed within the same template choice. In v3 it appears that I choose a whole different template. In theory, I could have 5 different templates in use for a single site “theme” (not to be confused with the themes drop-down inside of the template style) to get my layouts assigned to different menu items. Why would this change?

Also, in v2, I had the option to do assignments via the component and not just the menus. Is this something that will be added back into v3 or will it stay the way it is?

Again – looking forward to some more docs…maybe even one that explains how these things have changed from v2 to v3.

    Thanks.

What the differences can you see between v2 and v3?

V2: you can see “Global, Profiles, Layouts, Themes”
V3: We are using joomla default: Create template appearing with layout and assign it to menu

We will update user guides about that next time.
