It might help if you give an idea what changes you made that might be different in both versions.

The other thing, are the scripts meant to detect verious of Internet Explorer still in the head of the index.php?

The reason for the problem is that Internet Explorer (IE) decided a long time ago, when it wanted to destroy Netscape that it will use html codes and other scripting unique for Microsoft (MS) softwares only. Since IE was preloaded, and there was a time when many programmers have followed MS rules, like creating MS compatible sites only, many websites then work only if you use IE. In fact, until now, when I was browsing them a few years ago, there were still some US Federal and State websites that require you to use IE.

Many average users are not aware of all this, of course, and since usually they may just have IE as their main or sole browser, they assume that the problem is that of other browsers — so they stick to IE. In fact, most browsers, Firefox, Netscape, Sarari generally follow standard HTML codes and universally accepted scripting conventions.

It is MS that decided to be different so that it could maintain its monopoly.

And just to punish Microsoft, place a note in your site that it works better in Firefox.

By the way, if you wish to have a more in depth perspective of the compatibility of your sites to different browsers, search for “Website Browser Compatibility” and find those sites that allow you to enter your URL, and check how it looks in different browsers and versions of each browser.
