March 19, 2011 at 8:33 pm #161670My site is pretty much finished and I want to go live….
I am trying to understand the Joomla cache, which is having problem with some plugins, but first I would like to know the recommended settings of the Joomlart Template.
Before playing with Joomla cache I tried the Joomlart one, I have the following now set successfully and have made comments next to each:
Development Mode > NO (Site works fine)
Cache Mode > ENABLE (Site works most of the time, then seems to lose styles but holds structure)
Optimize CSS > Linked files (Cannot use minify or compress or template loses styles as above)
Optimize JS > Join & Minify & Compress (Works fine)Are the above setting normal, should I be getting template issues with some settings?
What settings do you use and/or recommend?

March 19, 2011 at 9:11 pm #382299The settings really depend on what you are using. Some js files will intefeer with others if you join them for instance. Some servers also have trouble with certain css compressions if they have their own compression enabled (like mod_pagespeed). I can only join my css files and have to leave my js alone. On another site everything can be at the max but I have to exclude one js file from a plugin for it to work.

March 20, 2011 at 8:51 am #382322Cheers Phil, sounds like a case of experimenting and testing for optimum usage then.
The developer of a plugin solved the Joomla cache issue and the Joomlart template will only work with linked css, no minify or compression.
Site seems a much faster now delivering pages, JA Slideshow is my only real concern on the index page, how is it for you test.medboat.com ??
Any advice welcome before going live, but just about there, few articles to write and job done…..

March 20, 2011 at 8:57 am #382323Phil quick question as nobody on Joomla forums seems to be awake this week!
Would you use the redirect function of 1.6 or stick to puttng 301’s in htaccess ?

March 22, 2011 at 10:43 pm #382767Phil sorry to bend your ear on here but the Joomla forum seems to be asleep these days.
Posted this any ideas?
I got all my new site online, used the redirect feature of 1.6 and all seemed to be working well.
When I checked the redirects were working, I must have just done those that had html extensions, just checked out the old shtml ones and they will not divert. I do not even get my custom 404 page?
I have put them in the htaccess file and they work from there, so now I have redirects in 2 places.
So is there a fix to get Redirect to work for old shtml pages? I have already noticed it doesn’t like query strings, but that is not so important for me.

March 23, 2011 at 8:30 am #382842Dear kairey,
Do you mind let me know steps I can take to check out the issue on my local ? Also it would be clearer if you post here your live url where the issue can be seen.

March 23, 2011 at 8:46 pm #382945Not sure what you mean, are you referring to my post above or the original one?
I know the above is a Joomla issue I was just asking Phil’s or anyones opinion, if you have an old .shtml url it doesn’t seem to divert in the Joomla Redirect component.
The original post with regards to the Joomla cache, I have just optimised what I can without breaking the template.
With both issues there is nothing that can be seen on the love URL, but it is http://www.medboat.com
I am happy with this site, but worried about the rendering of it, I was at a clients today and it too 60 seconds to download!

March 23, 2011 at 9:07 pm #382947Just an observation, but for me the 1.5 version demo of this template loads much quicker than the 1.6 on your web site, plus the slideshow while loading drops the main body of the page and then jumps back up again when loaded on 1.6, same as my site?
When is the new version of the 1.6 with all the big fixes going to be available? I know I have reported some that you have implemented on my site….

March 23, 2011 at 10:06 pm #382948I’ve just looked at your site again and it took less than 2 seconds to load for me. The flying RIBs look like great fun, not seen them over here.

March 25, 2011 at 6:01 pm #383304Hi Phil
We don’t have the best internet in the world down here in Spain, in fact to be honest its pretty chronic!!!!
I don’t know what the deal is over on the Joomla forums, but it seems many questions are just not getting answered, I hop this changes, its very strange and I hope the future of Joomla is still rosey!
Still can’t figure out why the Joomla Redirect won’t do my old shtml pages, but if it doesn’t hurt having those in the htaccess and the rest in the component it doesn’t really matter.

March 25, 2011 at 6:13 pm #383307The future of Joomla is very rosey. The probably reason why you are not getting any response is probably because there are not too many people that know the answer to your question. J1.6 is very new so it will take time to learn.
