    Hi,

If a template comes with an older version of T3 2 framework, can one safely upgrade to 1.2.5 framework version? If the framework files have not been edited, I would assume so, but want to make sure.

Also, can the updated framework be installed over the previous version, or should the previous version be uninstalled first?

    Thanks for the clarification.

    Hi bkmja

If you want to update JA T3 v2 framework, you should use JA Ext Manager. There is comparing feature in JA Ext Manager, so you should use it before take upgrading process, it will show the files modified. So you can re-apply your customize after upgrading is finished.

Thank you for the reply. At this time I do not want to use the JA Ext Manager, but I will explore the component later. I have not made any customizations to the framework files.

In using the joomla installer, should the previous version of the JA T3 v2 framework be unistalled first, or can I simply install the latest version of the JA T3 v2 framework over the previous version.

Thank you in advance for clarifying the process.

The JA Extension manager really is the best way. If you must do it manually then you would need to uninstall the old plugin first. Please make backups before you do of both the files and the database.

    Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Your post begs a question though. Have installed/uninstalled a number of plugins, modules, etc…in the past and all have gone smoothly. Is there something with the framework plugin that makes it buggy, and more prone to uninstall/install failure?

As for ext manager, until I understand how it works and if it impacts security, I am inclined to hold off.

My goal is to simply upgrade the framework plugin, and find it odd that an additional component extension should be installed too.

Again, appreciate your reply and look forward to your insights on the framework nuances.

Without knowing what problems you had installing those plugins you have had problems with and what the problems you had were it is impossible for us to know the cause.

Full details of how the extension manager works can be found in the wiki. It should not affect security but that is a choice you have to make. The component is not required for you to update the plugin, you can do it the normal Joomla way should you choose. It just makes life easier. You don’t have to go searching for the plugin. You can instantly see what versions are available and you can roll back with a simple press of a button should things not work as you desire. If you want to use the extension manager then fine, if not then you can still do so.

Thanks for the clarification. Will have to investigate ext mgr later on, sounds nice.
