Hello,
we use the JA Edenite template, which uses a cookie, probably to store user preferences.
[From your Q&A:
Q: I changed my default color/font/resolution but when I refresh the page, it didn’t change?
A: JA template use client’s cookie to save your preferences. If you made change to default value, please close the browser, open a blank new window and then clear the browser’s cookie. You’ll see the new preferences applied.]
In general, we have a discussion in all EU member states regarding the implementation and enforcement of EU regulation 2009/136/EC. This regulation requires in Article 5(3) the consent for storage or access to information stored on a subscriber or users terminal equipment – in other words a requirement to obtain consent for cookies and similar technologies. The enforcement of compliance is a priority these days in the EU.
So, in short, this discussion is leaving the academic stage and supervisory public bodies do inspect websites with regard to compliance to the so-called cookie-directive (2009/136/EC).
For us, compliance is mandatory and not an option. Additionally, we just provide information on our website and do not offer client preference options. So, there is on the other hand, really no need for a cookie.
Could you please provide a description how to disable the template specific cookie?
Again, this affects all customers with websites in EU member states…
Best regards,
Mario
