September 28, 2008 at 12:43 pm #272828I’m working with Genista at the moment and I’m getting the same error. I’m trying to change the menu option in the Admin Template area but it is telling me it is unwritable. So why is it doing it Menalto? Do you know how I can fix it?

September 29, 2008 at 12:49 am #272954I did the Global area Menalto… still said unwritable so I also went to my c-panel and changed the permissions there as well. The menu buttons are now appearing! Thank you very much. 😎
Now I’m going to go back and turn off the permissions in both panels. Don’t you think that is a smart thing to do? Doesn’t leaving the FTP writable often leave a person open for attack?

September 29, 2008 at 5:49 am #272988From a previous post by you i guess you do this for clients.
Restrict access to the site while you are building it with a htaccess file and password. this makes it so you need to log in to access the site.
Change permissions on the needed files so you can modify them.
When the site is done you can then go trough all files/folders and set the right permissions.1 user says Thank You to Menalto for this useful post

September 29, 2008 at 6:33 pm #273103That is what I was thinking but I wasn’t sure if you kept your sites open permanetly. I was hoping we agreed that keeping them open could be a bad thing to do.
Thanks
September 29, 2008 at 7:06 pm #273105i enabled the ftp layer in the globals and it still goes unwritable after i save it. what is going on? its very annoying, i usually have my ftp program open anyway, so i can fixt the permissions. but it shouldnt be doing it anyway
