We updated this site to 2.5 and now the home page is messed up (style-wise). I noticed that the default template.css file was put back after updating. We had a backup of the old (correct) template.css file (which has a lot more changes added to it), so I put that back and nothing changed.

As we often do to correct issues with the CSS not being respected, we deleted the files in the T3 Assets folder and then they get regenerated automatically.

However, when I did this, nothing got re-created (i.e. the T3 Assets folder stayed empty).

I restored the deleted T3 assets files back to the folder and the original, messed up home page is back.

Basically, we need the updated template.css file to be respected AND need to know why the T3 Assets folder isn’t being updated automatically. I imagine the two issues are related, but not sure.

Any ideas? This is pretty urgent as the client is aware their site looks like crap currently.

Did you make/have a backup of your site files before you updated everything to 2.5?

I believe what you want/need to do is create some output/template overrides for those files/elements you do not want to change when you update various elements within Joomla. Here are some resources to read through to understand how output/template layouts work within Joomla . . . .
