We set a module in position 5. Is it possible to have whatever is published in this position to expand into positions to the right of it unless another position in that row is used?

So if there was nothing published in positions 6-8, the module in position 5 would span out into those positions.

In the spotlight the size of the position is defined in the php files og /blocks files. so it will not be auto change the size , You can check or expand the module position size in the template options , Here is doc
